TURN SIX: JEEZ HARRY, I WAS JUST BUSY WITH FINALS AND ALL((Sarcasm, sarcasm. No hate, Harry, I understand how I've been lagging behind lately
))
Shells hitting this round: 8The first shell, high explosive, hits the side of the volcano near the cave that Rune is located in! He is knocked to the floor and hit by some falling debris, which gives him a nasty cut on the right arm. Otherwise, he is fine, though he might want to clean that wound later. Rocks are displaced among the cave and you're pretty sure a big chunk of the volcano just fell into the ocean.
The second shell hits a building in Aecrocia near the second emergency shelter, burrowing in deep and nearly collapsing the building in on itself! Fifteen people are killed and two escape, injured but alive. Some debris hits people running towards the shelter still, but only lightly harms them.
The third shell, a high explosive, lands once again at the delta at the entrance to the Atisi village. However, it lands mostly in the water and causes large waves to surge up, but does not disturb the population or any structures for the most part.
The fourth shell, another high explosive, lands within the forest incredibly close to Alex Raman, and sends dirt, branches, plants, and Alex Raman flying! Alex has been knocked unconscious, but is otherwise okay. The Atisi troops nearby are dazed, but not hurt.
The fifth shell lands on the northwest side of the mountain and crumbles inward a large chunk of grassland; however, it is nowhere near close to any civilian populations and thus does not affect much except for the nearby terrain.
The sixth shell lands near the government complex in Aecrocia, inside of an office building. Luckily, though, it does not go off, and merely creates a hole in the roof of the building. Nobody is hurt since most people have already evacuated to the emergency shelters.
The seventh shell lands in the forest just north of the Atisi. It starts a few sparks as an incendiary shell, but does not successfully detonate and thus does not do much other than make some Atisi civilians panic.
The eighth shell lands in the beach southwest of Aecrocia, and while being and incendiary shell, it does not do much to the sand other than make a giant mess for everyone. It does not affect any structures or civilians as it is too far from the civilian population.
The fire west of Aecrocia finally dies out. The fire south of Magis remains at a standstill for now, trying to find other sources to feed itself.
Casualties: Fifteen Aecrocians dead, two injured.
Alex Raman is unconscious. Rune is injured. The warships have arrived and are beginning the invasion process. 170 troops have been offloaded and are invading on the west coast of Aecrocia. Additionally, 80 troops have landed at the southwest side of the island near the Atisi, and 140 troops are marching towards Magis. A headquarters unit has offloaded also, on the bay of Aecrocia.
"Nice lizard..."
Attempt to befriend the lizard. Or, at least, be-not-a-meal it.
Warren DrakeAt first, you are a bit apprehensive. Meeting a lizard in the middle of the deep, dark forest while a warring nation is ever so closer to destroying your home territory is not the most comfortable situation in the world.
"Nice lizard..." you say, as you raise your hands in a warding motion. The lizard simply tilts its head even more and opens its mouth in a weird kind of grin.
"Hellloooooo huuuuummaaan!"You blink many times to make sure you are not dreaming this up. The lizard had just spoken to you. The lizard, in response to your muteness, opens its mouth again and begins to speak in a sort-of hiss.
"You are ssssspeak, Guarrrdian? Not awoken?"In the amazingly grammar-less english that the lizard hisses to you in, it appears to query whether you are able to talk now. He also calls you... a
Guardian? What? You look around at the forest, which now seems not to be so dark and dreary, but rather calm and....
breathing? Yes, it seems alive. It seems vibrant. As if it now welcomes you rather than bogging you down the whole way. You turn your attention back to the lizard, who patiently awaits for an answer. All that seems to exist is you, the forest, and the lizard.
Try to limp my way down, be careful.
Cromwell JacksonLuckily, you have already covered some good distance due to your fall down the stairs. Also, the building isn't that tall compared to most buildings and skybridges in Aecrocia. As you make your way down, the building shakes violently, and you hear an explosion very close nearby. You hurry down and, even though you are in mild pain, you still are able to get down to ground floor. You exit the building with your kitten. Looking up, you see black dot falling towards you right now.
Forest! a voice in your head says.
Forest! You look down at your pack and the kitten is staring intently at you, and then looks towards the direction of the forest, across Summer Hall.
Friends, the voice says. You then figure out that it might indeed be the kitten talking to you. It might not, and you might actually be crazy. But then again, how crazy could you be while the beginning of a war is taking place? Not that crazy; after all, a mortar shell has just crushed the building right next to you and has brought you rain made of debris.
So, follow the kitten, or stay with civilization?
Grab some wood and stone, and create supports so my place does not cave in if hit by a bomb.
RuneFunny that you should think that, as a shell has just hit hard on the side of your volcano and cause parts of your cave to rip off, and subsequently hit you. More specifically, your right arm, which now has been cut across somewhat deep. It's not going to kill you, but you do still believe infection is a thing, especially in a damp, fungus-ridden cave.
You are able to find some stone- a lot of stone, considering your cave has just been hit by a high explosive- but cannot find any wood, nor any stones large enough to support the cave. Still, the cave seems to be holding up quite good, despite the barrage incoming. You could mold some clay as a support, but unfortunately the clay is still wet and you would have to prepare some bricks in the heat of the volcano, which would not be a comfortable task while death falls from the sky.
Suddenly, you hear a knock outside. Heavens, of all things, how could someone find your cave?
"Running isn't that simple. If I run without watching, I'm even more likely to get hit than if I simply stood still. For now I watch, and I run only if something will threaten me here, or I have something to gain from going somewhere else. How bad are you at this anyway? Even the smallest child could come up with a better tactic than suggesting running off in a blind panic."
Wait and watch, avoid being hit.
How did she know about that? Is she able to read my mind or is it that she's been watching me for a long time... or maybe getting her information from someone else who has?
...
no, she can't be reading my mind, she talked like she thinks I think chaos is a bad thing. so I've got that advantage at least.
so... what is her objective? Why did she want me to panic? to run for the comfort of the forest.
what is she after...
LirianOh, I don't know.... I mean, you're only being advised by a ghost who has absolutely nothing to lose and not much to gain from saving your life, she replies with a snicker.
Imagine, just for a second, that I was actually trying to help you. Imagine I was actually on your side, the first person on your side in... forever, really. And... it's not a blind panic run if you're being assisted by one with more knowledge than you. She pauses for a moment, as if considering the moment.
Hahaha, it's your choice, rebel. I don't care for you qualms with me. Either walk through the door I've opened for you or continue sulking on this already-damned island. Byyeeeee! She finishes talking and the forest picks up another breeze that directs itself into the deeper parts of the forest. The breeze seems to be urging you to the forest, as if the girl-ghost was pushing you towards there. But you haven't been anywhere near hit by any shells, and the shells seemed to have stopped now. Instead, they have been replaced by the marching of troops on the island.
Okay yes now safety. Get to it.
Cecil G. PalmerAfter your trouble getting down the stairs, you manage to get to the bottom floor. However, the doors are jammed. Likely the reason is because a vendor's cart has flown directly into the door itself. Oh dear.
You begin trying to push the cart out of the doorway, but you are unsuccessful. The windows are still standing, likely because they have been made of reinforced glass, since this is the main residence of the president of Aecrocia, your father. You could try to bash the windows out, or find another way to take the vendor's cart out. Also, you could search for another exit, but your time is limited here and shells are hitting very close nearby.
You also swear you hear the marching of boots coming closer and closer to the city. Behind you, you hear talking, and one of the three people talking addresses you.
"Ah, Cecil... I am glad that you are okay. We have arranged a deal with the Magis to send you off with some other Magis royalty to escape this. Go start some new corporation on another island. I will deal with these... hooligans. The boat is on the east coast of the Magis Kingdom. You might want to take the car."You look behind you, but your father has not even taken a glance at you, merely staring down his PDA and conversing with his assistants, and then departing through the emergency exit.
Go look for the queen, she probable be busy, but...
Diana CrownYou go searching for the queen, who is probably in some chamber deep within the inner palace of the Magis Kingdom. Unfortunately, she never bothered to tell you where exactly this inner sanctum really was and thus you cannot find it on your own. You bump into a guard running down the hallway towards the barracks.
"M-my lady! The Queen has ordered me to request that you arrive at the eastern coast, where she has prepared a boat for your departure for the island! You must hurry before it is sent off!"
Ask the warriors if they have seen my girlfriend
Alex RamanYou begin to ask the fine gentlemen if they have seen your girlfriend around, just before you nearly go deaf from a mortar shell and are thrown into the air. You feel weightless, and you can see everything flying around you, almost in slow motion, before you hit a tree and black out completely.
Unconscious, one turn. Before you close your eyes fully, you hear yelling and shots fired. Actual bullets, not just Atisi bowmen; and these do not sound like Aecrocian projectile guns either. These sound like foreigners, not anyone that you know of. And their guns fire so fast... why? Who would invent such technology of death?
Stand and pray. Hope to not die.
Eh AhYou are knocked off your feet by the striking of several shells insanely close to your position. However, they do not hit the building you are standing (now knocked down) in. It takes a while for you to get back up, since you have now been disoriented on the stairs leading down to the basement. After getting back up again, you look outside to see troops marching down the street, taking stray civilians and arresting them or outright executing rebellious civilians.
And then the gunfight begins. The Aecrocian military, composed of marksmen with the latest bolt-action guns (which are not really reliable technology yet), arrives at the end of the street and takes shelter in the various buildings, exchanging fire with the new foreigners who are invading the island. Some of the foreigners begin launching explosives towards the Aecrocian forces, and you duck down the stairs just in case they come closer to you.
You pray that they will not find you.
Keep on following!
ArnequerBoth of you make it to the the entrance of the cave in good health, which seems to be very unstable considering the side of the volcano was just hit by an explosive shell. The blacksmith gives you a nod, and you give a deliberate knock at the door. Whoever was inside has stopped moving around to consider your knock. While you wait for the occupant to open up, you look to your left and see some Magis guards preparing to bring a small ship to the ocean. It's a weird craft, seeming to be a combination of the invention of Aecrocian and Magis technologies. The craft is wooden itself, but appears to be very airtight and and even has a motor to propel itself on its own. The guards carry the ship down and start sending some guards back to retrieve something inside of the Magis Kingdom.
You continue to wait for the door to open.
Onward to adventure! Or not. Wait for a lull in the bombardment.
You wait for the bombardment to end. And, to your amazement, it does! And it ends shortly, too. Why does it do this? You can't hear anything, though, since there are thousands of people simultaneously talking about what is happening. Thousands of people screaming. Thousands of people causing more and more chaos. It was too much; you couldn't hear what was happening outside anymore. You decided it was enough.
"
QUIET!"
The entire Hall goes quiet. You're pretty sure you can't even yell that loud. But somehow, you have just silenced the entire Hall with your voice. They all look at you for orders. Outside, you can hear the marching of troops and gunfire. Despite this, all of the government workers and the civilians are giving their attention towards you.
The gears are turning, everyone. The powers are incoming, and the invaders are invading.
Not much to say that I didn't say in the other update post. Enjoy, everyone, and a Merry Christmas to all.
We're nearing the end of Chapter One here. Heheehee.
