I found out about DF during the late summer of 2008. Right before school started. I remember seeing DF's entry on the tvtropes pages "Annoying Arrows" and "Chunky Salsa Rule" which made me interested.
A few days later I started my first fortress.
It came to a abanonment when I was ambushed by goblins. My lava moat did not work as well as I had hoped. I recall that they killed the caravan and my miners, and then just stuck around.

Yeah, I came here in 2009 (was aware of it due to a succession game that was going on in another forum before that), left in 2011 for a while and came back a few months ago.

I joined the forums later on, on November 2010.

tbh, I joined because I read about this game in Notch's blog(The developer of Minecraft) and was wondering "what's that?"... was hooked ever since.
Interestingly enough, I lost interest in Minecraft while gained interest in DF and Toribash - I guess I like torturing myself with UI.
