Rebranding a school game
« on: November 12, 2013, 01:14:08 pm »

My high school senior class recently had a game going on. It was called “Assassins”. Some of you College people might know it, but basically here's a copy-paste of the rules from my Facebook Senior page:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Unfortunately, the game was quickly banned by the administration on three premises.

First of all, people were playing it during class during the first couple days. (I think it stopped even before the game was shut down.)
Secondly, the game was called “Assassins”. A violent name, disrespectful of the school shootings that happened.
Thirdly, the method of assassination chosen was drawing a marker across the neck, as it says in the rules above. Once again, very violent.

Here's the deal. The administration have told us that they would have no problems with a game of “Tagging” done with something like “stickers on the shoulder”. Unfortunately, the name “Tagging” sucks, and putting stickers on people's shoulders doesn't sound neither reliable nor cool.

So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what to call it, and for a better method of assassination that is not a violent symbol. Preferably one that intrinsically discourages people from assassinating in the classroom. Everyone in my class wants the game to be restarted, no one has made any steps to do so yet. And to be perfectly honest, I have much more faith in the creativity of Bay12 than of my peers.

Call it 'Duckssassins' and have people stick a duck sticker on someone's heart, head, or wrists!

The game is now called "Robots". A player is "deactivated" by drawing a power button (an unbroken circle) on their forehead and turning them off.

At my university, the killing method are unique for each victims. Usually some kind of silly stuff ("Touch him with a banana", "Catch her in a hoola-hup" or "Dip your hand in flour and make a hand-shaped flour patch on his back" are examples I remember.)

Yeah...

That is actually a really good idea. I'll think about how that would work. Although having to draw something on their forehead isn't really viable because it would take too much time, I'm sure the procedure could be somehow modified.

Huh, that seems like a lot of work. How did it work out? Isn't it a lot harder to prepare when you don't even know what to prepare against? Also, some methods surely were harder than others.

Any other ideas?

How about robots, but instead of a power button on the forehead, perhaps a line lightning bolt (think harry potter) on the back of the neck or something.

I challenge you to a game of 'Hide the Sausage', to the death.

In, effect, the organizer printed a card for every single player with the picture, name and method of assassination. When you kill someone, you take his card and kill his victim. It is almost impossible to prepare, you just become paranoid, fearing every single guy doing something weird.

It is a bit more work at the beginning, but at least you don't need to do anything once the game start. And yeah, some method tends to be higher than some other.

As for the name... Still no idea. Just pick something ridiculous like Mega Uber Non-Violent Killfest 2013.

I high school we called a game like that spy vs spy. Though it involved hitting the person with a water gun off school property and without any witnesses.

I knew a guy who played this, and had it shut down for the exact same reasons.

They changed it to making you have to cup your hand over their mouth, usually with a paper or cloth or something.

He told me about how one guy wanted to join their game, so they said he had to pass the test to join.
So he snuck into the guy's classroom while the teacher was away, grabbed him from behind, and slowly edged him out of the room.
Since everyone else in the room was aware of the game, everyone just watched him get drug out, and did nothing to stop it.

Afterward the guy asked how well he did. They said he failed.

For name, both "Robots" and "Spy vs Spy" work, or variations of those.

Okay, thanks everyone for helping.

The game will be called Robots. Everyone playing will wear a blank button pin on their shoulder. The attacker will have to draw a power symbol on the pin with a sharpie undetected, and then press into the pin.

The administration has just approved it. Should work out just fine. Now I just have to buy these damn pins. ;D $1.17 per pin was the best deal I found, if you're interested.

Sure! The game will probably start after Thanksgiving, but I'll be sure to pop in here when the fun begins.
