Conductivity system
« on: November 12, 2013, 02:59:26 am »

Is there or is it planned to have some sort of system added to materials that represent how readily they gain/lose heat? I know there's melting temps and all that, but is this specific system planned or implemented?

Sadly, as far as I know, it's not really used yet.

It's in there, but its primary effect is to damage FPS.

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

Specific heat is used in all temperature changes in DF, and it's been that way ever since the later 2D versions (which is when Toady implemented temperature in the first place).

The one notable thing that's missing is enthalpy of phase change (e.g. the amount of heat needed to change 100°C water into 100°C steam, and vice-versa) - in DF, phase changes happen the instant the temperature crosses the appropriate boundary.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
