update:

btw.  I was thinking, if you wanted to "force" people to submit changes via changelogs.  Just make them do so using winmerge diff comparison.  It's a lot easier.  Of course you might want to ask they do so using a certain fileset.

i don't know why there's this notion that github is so brutally hard to use. you've learned to play dwarf fortress, you'll be fine. really.

where did those (changes) come from?

Where did the integration changes come from? They came from me. Otherwise I don't understand the question.

Try extracting the files in a different folder, not under your user profile. For example: C:\DF\MW instead of "C:\Users\Shane Scriven\Downloads".

If that doesn't work, open the zip file in Windows and exclude the Settings Source folder from being extracted by just selecting everything but that folder and copying it to a different location.

Total path and file name length must not exceed 260 characters

The other solution is to use any unzip program that is not WinRAR, which seems to have arbitrary path limits. o_O

I find they die out in some worlds, notably pocket regions. I've not had a problem generating them with larger regions, and turning off other playable races should force DF to discard any world-gens in which they don't survive. (Although I seem to recall that's a switch somewhere, but I think it's on by default.)  I've been using Icy Myr for my testing, because they're Taiga orcs, and I want some nice cold conditions. :)

Can you tell me what settings you're using? (Tileset, world-gen, which races are enabled/playable?)

Tried with almost all preset gens, with only changes being length of history. Tileset was default.
