I like Glyph's idea- 'cause magic is boring. :)
And yeah, that death was retarded. Seriously. Who eats food that's been sent from halfway across the land, anyway, in a setting without refrigeration?! Forget the whole 'assassins out to kill you at every turn' thing, those chocolates would have been rancid anyway.

PLOT TWIST: They weren't actually poisoned at all, just badly spoiled. Whoops.

There is a way to prevent the chocolates from being sent. It involves an elaborate series of training steps early in your career, and telling you how would be boring and tell you far too much about who sent them and why. So I ain't saying.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I like keeping this more or less blind - I try not to vote on anything when I have enough information to know what the outcome of my vote will be, unless it's piling onto a general trend and I just want to post. Naturally, previous in-thread events are fair game. That's the primary gameplay mechanic, after all. There's a reason the protagonist starts out as a pink-haired, unexceptional girl who may be able to unlock unfathomable magical powers.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Elodie, why the actual fuck would you eat chocolates from a guy who murdered someone and left them in your living room?

The worst of it is how arbitrary the avoidance test is. Who would have guessed that training with dogs would allow you to escape poison?

No longer a spoiler: we now know this because it killed us.

Unrelated, what shall we name Elodie V.2?

Alodie, Belodie, Celodie, Deadlodie...

Axespendable didn't rhyme with the canonical name, no need for the B-name to rhyme, right? So... Bitterelle?
