Both costumes give a boost, but we can be more sure that military competence will be useful.
Besides, I'd rather see little girl Napoleon throwing fireballs.

Indeed.  Having to deal with the Eighth Spell and worse, the Luggage might be too much for our entire army to bear.

To be fair, though, we know that Lumens are not well-regarded in Nova.  The only open Lumen noble is working for us, and...well, any secret Lumens that may or may not exist among the rebellion or in their employ aren't likely to give away their secret unless they absolutely have to as a matter of survival, given the likely reaction to them doing so.  Remember how our own father, who married a Lumen, reacted to the Duchess of Ursul, after all.

But we have a Resist Magic and Sense Magic skill. There's gotta be other magic-users out there or there wouldn't be much point, right?

Unless there's situations where we can screw up bad enough to fight the Duchess I guess.

I do agree that with the general distaste for Lumen any secret mages they have probably wouldn't use their magic... but if we used our magic, I'm not sure how long that would be true, is what I'm saying.

So basically it's the nuclear option.

Well, we have already run into one wielder of indeterminate magical power (though that may have been demonic possession rather than a Lumen wielding a crystal), and we've had Sense Magic checks at certain other points in the game.  There are definitely secret Lumens and people with the potential to become Lumens in Nova, given the demographics alone; the key is just whether they'll willingly reveal themselves against us.  Plus, of course, there's the Duchess of Ursul, who we could have put under arrest with our very first event decision in the game.  That likely wouldn't have endeared her to us.

To the third part, discussing the long-term fate of Lumens in Nova may tread on spoiler territory, even if I really want to.  You're not completely wrong, though. ^_^

Ciphering 3
Divination 2
Resist Magic 1
Battlefield Medicine 1

Whoa. Lil Axie might or might not be Sun Tzu, but she knows how to calculate and delay invading forces by counting grain wagons, and understands the benefits and downsides to looting the countryside.

She's also either surpassed all human knowledge or gotten a gold star from her teacher. Either way, I'll bet it's shiny~

Negotiator? That's kind of a relief, or it would be if this wasn't likely just another chance to fail some knowledge checks before painting the countryside red as planned anyway.

I am incredibly proud of her right now. I suspect we're all incredibly proud of her right now, except maybe those who hope "lenient" means "relatively quick."

Well this is an unexpected impasse.

Certainly not a bad deal if we're pretty sure we're going to lose anyway. Though I guess the alternative would be "We're going to kill you out of principle," so probably not exactly generous on their end.

Again, not bad if our options were "lose" or "lose messily."

Now, the funny part about this is that she might have actually had a point had she not decided the best way to deal with a socially inept Hun was to rise up against her on the field of battle.

Now, I could probably make a call here and be 100% certain it was the right one. But I figure I might as well give everyone the opportunity to chime in and discuss these events first. :3

NEVER!

They take our lives, but they'll never take OUR FREEDOM!

Or something along those lines. I'm not a military mastermind.

Surrender, and then when their army comes to take us captive spring an ambush on them, killing them with our magic.   Then we can- wait that isn't an option....
Never!

If only they'd offered "leader of the armed forces and academy of battlemages" instead of "figurehead position"...
NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER

We could just do that when we become queen thou.  And who would respect us if we got our position by surrendering?
