Septimus will use his knowledge of optics to prepare a magnifying lens, with which to closely observe the specimen.
Unfortunately, you lack the precision tools required for making proper lenses. You doubt that you could buy them at market, but you could probably visit a blacksmith to work something out. Later though, for now you have different issues.
Using the crude tools Alexei fashions the stones into regular shapes like bricks.
These should serve as the pillars as he piled them up, but he got no mortar.
Using a hammer and chisel, you begin to fashion crude bricks. Not the best, but functional. Hypothetically.
Alexei is now a novice mason!Ruby tries to find the tools and space to set up an infirmary/surgical area. If she can, she does.
You set aside a small area for first aid, but you don't have a whole lot in terms of medical equipment. You could staunch bleeding or maybe stitch a wound, but you would probably have to revert to cauterising if the risk of infection is too large.
Test with tools
You get out a knife, hammer, and chisel, and start prepping a small area for inspection. However, when you go to move the crystal, something odd happens. The second you touch it with your bare skin, a light begins to emanate from the crystal. Suddenly, there is a brilliant flash! When your vision clears, the crystal is hovering upright in the air, and you become aware of a huge deep humming sound. Something deep within the crystal ticks into place, and a torrent of strange energy is released.
A pulse of blue light and white noise rushes forth from the crystal in a ring shape!
The pieces of chalk and a nearby ruler are infused with a strange energy! As the wave disperses, you notice that the chalk and ruler seem to have been left with some sort of aftereffect of the blast. Who knows how they have been altered, or how far reaching the effects of the bizarre energy travels?
> Mike: catch a spider and throw it at the crystal form a safe distance.
A little bit late for that now...
Then buy some land to build the greenhouse
Buy pots and soil and seed of spices.
You visit the magistrate to inquire about land ownership. You found that the land to build a small greenhouse would cost around 3500 ?steinmarks?, so that isn't happening now. You do go and pick up a few gardening supplies and potted herbs from the market for ?50 steinmarks?. On the way back to the lab, though, you are interrupted. A pulse of blue white rockets outwards from the lab, nearly blinding in intensity, and fills the horizon. You turn to watch it pass, and as it travels to the edge of your vision it doesn't show any signs of slowing yet. It could be just your eyes being seared by the light, but you could swear that some of your plants are now glowing slightly.
Derpus: I will also go out and help capture small animals, which seems like an appropriate henchman activity.
Hmm I think this might be heresy guys this looks like it has a demon inside it I think. Ive never seen a Demon before I think it is a demon we should destroy it. Aww who am I kidding imagine having a pet demon taking it on walks aww that would be great maybe it would look like a frog. I love frogs. Well the farmer fellow said his horses were scared of this thing wonder if thats true for all animals. We will need cages to hold test subjects as well I will get on that. Go to town Acquire 3 small wooden cages, Attempt to capture Frogs, Rats, and a Cat After the animal is captured hold it close to the object and observe the reaction.
Derpus and Green Beard decide to go catch some small animals, presumably to torture and/or eat. They buy some cheap cages for 60 ?steinmarks? and go through some backalleys. They manage to catch a few rats and frogs, when suddenly they hit the jackpot! A small kitten comes mewling, apparently abandoned, out of a pile of trash. Into the cage it goes! Green Beard and Derpus are satisfied with todays catch and make to leave, when suddenly there vision is briefly filled with a blue light, accompanied by a loud roaring noise. When the light subsides, the kitten has been replaced with a pile of teeny tiny cat bones. As they stop to mourn the loss of a friend and all its tasty meat, they notice something: the skull has two dim, blue lights in the eye sockets. Before your eyes, the bones reassemble themselves, producing a living kitty skeleton!
The small kitten has been killed, and reanimated as a skelekitten!Malaria heads out to town and the outlying farms to talk to local farmers and veggie merchants to hear the latest gossip and offer her advice where needed.
I'll come with you, Searchy. I've got business in town anyway.
Meet with some of my informants, to keep myself properly briefed on down-low sorts of things.
After the strange events following the burst of light, both of you go into town and begin to wander around. The whole town is abuzz with news of the happenings, with many singing the same song: Various household objects have begun to act strangely, and there are rumors that other things have been affected too: one farmer claims that he saw his horse snort out fire. When he went back later to check on it, it was gone. Another person claimed that her mirror wasn't reflecting her, and occasionally she would see glimpses of something moving outside the window in the reflection. It appears that everyone is rather distraught about these events; it may not be a good idea to let them know how they conspired just yet.
