Welcome to the Steinheim Laboratory! The laboratory is a small group dedicated to the improvement of life in the area by means of researching the ways the world works. However, after developing an improvement for the forge of local blacksmiths, you have run into a bit of a dry spell. You hope to turn this around soon, though. Today, a small bundle wrapped in burlap was dropped off at the lab, with a note attached, which read: "You should take a look at this. I found it when I was plowing the fields today. The workhorses refused to go near the thing. I carefully wrapped it up, and sent it here. I don't want it, could be dangerous. If it turns out to be valuable, I'd appreciate it if you could return it."
What will you do?Steinheim Laboratory is a game in which you are tasked with investigating some recent strange events, and hopefully making a profit in the process. The setting is a fairly prosperous medieval style town. It is a very open game, the only goal being to make science happen. There will be no silly dice rolls to determine if you can or can't do something.
As for character sheets, not a lot is needed. You need a name, and a skill. You can start as an apprentince in a single skill. There are no set skills, you can put it into whatever you want as long as you think it might be useful. You can include a description and backstory if you want, but this game was made with the idea that the players are all middle to lower class average citizens. There will be no waitlist unless I cannot keep up with the number of players.
The first player to join will be the head of research. The head of research is not required to do a whole lot, but if you need a leadership position then this may be useful. If the head of research dies, then the next senior lab member takes over as the head. Also, if you do not wish to be the head of research, you may delegate to someone else.
Combat will not be a large part of the game. That said, it is still entirely possible to die. In the event of a death, feel free to make another character. The only thing that a death will cost you is possibly destruction of items, and it will be a large loss if they are highly skilled.
This game is meant to be played cooperatively. While you don't have to all work on the same thing, there will come times when having coordination can help.
Tips:
The town is fully functional. You can wander around and go to different shops all you want. Just because I don't explicitly state something exists, don't assume it doesn't.
It is a good idea to make frequent use of the market. Not only can you purchase useful supplies, you can also overhear various rumors and gossip.
Be sure to send someone out of town and explore every once and a while. The immediate surroundings will start off tame, and you might be able to find useful things.
We'll get started when someone joins the game. Upon joining, your character will be added to the game.
Feel free to ask any questions. This is my first time running a game on this forum, so I probably missed something.
