These of course are games which only got one person doing the writing.
I am starting with OMEGA and ADOM but would like to do a few that are not rogueish.
So kids point me in the right direction.

Just how single author are we talking? Cryptic Comet is a single programmer/ideas guy that outsources the art stuff, for example. Does he count?

If so, Armageddon Empires and Solium Infernum were released to much minor niche fanfare some years back. SI has a strong multiplayer bent (while AE has none) so keep that in mind if you pick these up. Both are turn based strategy games that borrow heavily from board and card games.

The Space Empires series, created by Aaron Hall. (Though he did have some help with the art, he did all the programming himself.)

I think a lot of the games done with RPGMaker just have one author.

Dangerous Dave, which I believe was written entirely by John Romero.

Exile I believe was just Jeff Vogel. Some guy wrote Pyramid of Ra. Fez was one guy I think. Also, there's a niche roguelike called Dwarf Fortr-

I forget if the Chzo Mythos were written just by Yahtzee or if there was another person. Either way, they're really good games.

I think scope has to be determined first.

Are you looking for something where ALL the coding and assets were developed by a single person, or can they contract out for the music, art, etc? Are web (Flash, Java, etc.) games included? etc.

as for limitations I am planning to be pretty loose about format although
I would like a single author of all the parts. design, coding, art if the is any.

M. Dickie games. Each one is a unique treasure, although the better-known ones are "Hard Time", "The You Testament" and its successor "Making of a Prophet".

There's also the Attack on Titan fangame, although it's not very good for a review since it's getting major updates every three or four weeks. The most recent update included a major graphics overhaul that completely broke one of the older levels and a brand-new character with a unique ability. FYI the multiplayer menu is deceiving, you need Hamachi for that. Don't listen to any tutorials with the router IP or whatever, that's a load of bunk, just set up a Hamachi server and it'll all work fine.

Touhou series, bullet hell games where all the art, music and programming is all done by one person, Zun.

You rule out so many great indie games that have miniscule teams with such strict rules.  Probably the majority, since even most flash games are collaborations between a programmer/animator and a composer.

Anyway, many of the voxel-style games are one dev.

I think dota2 is down to one dev now. /joke

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.
