Neither have I. That's part of the idea.

It has all sorts of weird rules too. You have to roll a d100 to raise gates and to bend bars, but not for anything else.

Sure you use d100 for other stuff! Generating your secondary skill (which may end up being NO SKILL OF MEASURABLE WORTH in proclamation-caps), system shock and resurrection survival, spell failure for Clerics with low Wisdom, chance to learn spell for M-Us, all the thief skills ...

Not to mention all kinds of DM stuff like contracting disease from the environment, generating loot, some wandering monsters, etc.

EDIT: Sorry, I think you might have meant that you don't use it for lifting / raising other things besides bars and gates. If that's the case, I'm simply wrong! :P It is weird.

Alright. It's the only thing I've read about so far that uses a d100.

Sure, why not ? Time to use a multiclass system that is actually fun.

Never played 2e before except via Baldur's Gate and other old Black Isle CRPG's. May need some adaptation.

By 2E there wasn't really a single standard, because they gave so many generation methods in the front of the book. But variations on 3d6 or 4d6-drop-lowest are I think the most common. The other generation methods give much higher chances for good stats, and there are articles floating around describing how incredibly unlikely it is for someone rolling honestly to qualify for some of the subclasses.

I was gonna post today asking the same thing.

Also, what of 2E are we throwing out? Are we using weapon speed and/or casting times? Racial class restrictions / multiclassing restrictions?

It's actually possible to play with all that stuff, you just need to get used to it.

1st level spellcasters have one 1st level spell per day. But Clerics can get bonus spells from high Wisdom. Semi-casters like Paladins, Rangers, and Bards must wait some time to get spells. As you go up in level you get more spells per day.
(Although I think it was pretty common house rule to say you get bonus spells using the Wisdom chart for whatever your spellcasting stat is - dunno what house rules, if any, he's using)
(Also, at least it's not B/X where your Clerics got their first 1st level spell at 2nd level ... )
