'Well as far as we can tell, this one is to the plane of fire.' He glances past you to the burning city. 'I think a hole is the best you can hope for. At worst, it could be a pit spouting flames that will boil the stone around it. My advice would be to follow the flames, so to speak.'

The flight out passes smoothly, the air silent except for the chop of the rotors and the crackle of the flames growing steadily louder.
 You are dropped down just outside the rim of the city, the heat brushing against you faces. The pilot takes back off, and leaves wordlessly, after handing you a beacon to call him back.
 Before you loom the city walls, shimmering like the shell of a furnace. A section of the wall has collapsed, where the gate used to be, and a street leads down between two rows of burning houses. the heat between them should be bearable, albeit uncomfortable.

You pass between the corridor of flames, the heat increasing until it begins to singe the hairs on your head. And then, all of a sudden, the heat dies down. The crackling fades. And in the distance, to the North, a column of fire shoots up into the air. Then the crackling resumes, but this time, it seems more regular, more human. Almost like laughter. And as you spin round, you see six figures, men of pure fire, step from the flames on either side of you.
