« on: November 09, 2013, 10:14:43 pm »

i have heard that fox news was not a reliable source from a liberal teacher. does anyone have any evidence for or against this?

thanks and have a nice day!

I'd settle for capitalization. although all lower case seems to be zk's thing.

Basically any TV news station is not a "reliable source" in any context.

They are considered biased to the right: Unanimously by the Left, much of the middle, and a plurality of the right.

This is somewhat interesting, if based on perceptions and not especially conclusive. It does address partisan gaps between perceived reliability of news sources, Fox News amongst them, which I suspect is relevant to your current situation.

I was trying to find something more formal and objective, but failed. There do appear to be plenty of "Fox News is terrible look at this thing they did/didn't do/skewed/got wrong" articles scattered everywhere, and there's an entire Wikipedia page devoted to Fox controversies, but nothing more coherent and comprehensive like I was hoping for.

Ninja'd by said Wiki page and one search of said articles.

This is pretty bizarre. Maybe because they went into it knowing it was entertainment, they were able to wear it better? I dunno.

It is actually very reliable. There isn't a single day where it fails to be reliably terrible.

CNN is terrible because they're hilariously incompetent.

Fox is terrible because it tries its damn hardest to shill the political right and is hypocritical like fuckall. (Because you have no right to call yourselves "fair and balanced" if you are... just watch the damn video)

alot on the first page was biased. also, you get about the same amount of results for every large news corporation.

( sorry, i really do want information, however, i just think i need the practice, because i haven't won a single round in my last 2 debate tournaments)

Yes. That they're all bad doesn't make fox not bad.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
