As an end of year reward our computers class got to pick a personal project. We decided to hook up a network, now we are done we have consent to play games, yay!
We have seven computers set up with win8.1 they are all hooked up to a hub and it runs pretty quick. Currently our only game is Halo CE Custom Edition but it would be nice to have more variety. Any suggestions?

Last LAN me and my friends had we played UT2004, that was quite fun. A bit less serious than Halo, and iirc it has more game types. AoE2 is good if you don't want an FPS. You might want to look into source mods if you can install steam, as there are some fun ones like suicide survival and resistance and liberation. Total annihilation or something like the Spring engine is good for massive RTS games.

We had endless fun with the original Half-life. It's aged, but still fun.

lan wise my favorite were always AOE2 recently with forgoten empires Red alert 2 is fun lan, so is C&C generals and star wars battlefront 2

Adding to Naxza's suggestion, Doom 2 with Brutal Doom is amazingly fun RIP AND TEAR action. You'll need Zandronum to play multiplayer with it, however, and you might need to mess around a bit with shortcuts and such to get it working, but it's SO worth the effort.

Also, if you can make it work (me and my friend couldn't), Heroes of Might and Magic 3 could be a nice change of pace.

Counterstrike is the obvious solution to your problem. We used to play it on our school computers and those were crummy old macs

The first unreal tournament is a good choice as it runs like lighting on ancient pc's and really easy to play.

Doom or another doom like are great fun and are really small (you know like if you ever have to play a game off a USB stick, cos that is totally not something you'd do .)

I know it has been said already, but I've had fun times with AOE2, more recently Forgotten Empires. Although depending on the school computer end game might lag, but it's totally worth it.

Warcraft III has some pretty neat custom maps out there. You do kind of need to already know about them, and download them each separately, but there are maps that cover nearly every genre, and enough content for dozens of games.
