Not really, only because 'winning' isn't really defined so easily. You 'win' as the humans by killing the Mushes or something. You 'win' as the Mush by killing/infecting all the humans. The skills just keep everyone alive while this is happening, and maybe tweak things in your favour.

It's more like a non-insignificant part of the game is barred to you unless you are paying $30/month.

So instead it's super pay2havefun?

I feel like the chat system is a mess. It is not updating for me automatically and it is not updating for me when I hit the refresh button under messages. I have to refresh the enter web browser page AND EVEN THEN it does not always seem to list new messages. It will however show me the new messages if I make a post. I am not sure if the issue is with them or firefox or what, but it is really annoying.

Even then we keep having a pressing lack of communication on our crew. We finally have about seven of us running the ship, but our commander lost the title to someone high in the chain of command (I assume an inactive who rejoined?) who is now running around doing stuff without saying a single thing and ignoring the objectives the comm officer had previously announced. That planet we were heading to?

Oh he does not want to go there! He will just take us somewhere else and he will continue to do so without talking to anyone!

Blarg!

More adventures of the great and skillful Hua:

Ate food, slept, took a stroll around base looking for stuff.  So many things are broken and we had a huge fire that was all over the ship and now the gravity machine is broken.
Yea... we are having morale issues, a few people have already jumped out of the airlock or overdosed on pills or something(I'd say they hung themselves, but we have no gravity).  Plus I think I ate the last ration too, cause the rest were burned out by the fire.

Everything seems very inactive in my ship. Does it get better?

Seems it is possible to get into a premade ship.   That is where most of the fun lies in the Die2Nite games I guess.  Or if you get lucky, into a game with another premade.

Just use the first fail ship as a tutorial to get to know things better.  Like position of stuff around the ship.

The biggest problem I have with this game is that it's just way too slow. I think private matches that allow AP/MP to be awarded every ten minutes or so would play soooooooo much better.

I'm in the Twinoid-Games for some time now (KadoKado und Arkadeo are nice too...you can gain Amazon Gift Cards with playing)...and it's relative normal that their games have a slow pace.
There are people with different timezones and in Mush it seems you need some time for communication so it's good to have slow regenerations. It's not a classic action game ;)

Beside that I'm not sure how much fun it can be to play with random people. It reminds me of the board game "Battlestar Galactica" where some players are betrayer and the basic job is to survive ;) But there you have all players active because its a board game and not with some strangers around the world.
Private game sessions could handle this problem but then it's easier to cheat for getting XP or such (ok...won't be much of fun but thats nothing that holds some people back).

I kind of like the idea of this, but at the same time I really don't want to touch it because of the writing and having to control one of the pre-written characters. Like the intro and character descriptions basically tell me whoever wrote this thought lame overused internet memes and cats are hysterical.

Gave it a try, played for a bit.

Glacial slow pace. I like the fact that each crew member has distinct and important roles to play that most others cannot fill, but, damn it's painfully slow. I definitely had more fun with Space Station 13, at least there I can finish a round in an hour or two tops.

Also visually it reminds me of Habbo Hotel.

I'm enjoying this. The teamwork required reduces the impact of the pay2win system, but it is still a little extreme. In either case, I'm enjoying it for now, and waiting to see if it forms a good community (or not).

I do see the complaints about the pace of the game, but I think you guys might be missing something. Laying in a bed at the end of a cycle doubles your AP generation, and considering you can convert 1 AP into 3 MP, you basically double how much you can do. Other actions such as taking pills (One kind gives you 3 AP every cycle you take one, for example), or eating a meal (a cooked ration gives you 4 AP) really does make the game more fluid. As research and new inventions are made, this improves even further.

Oh yay, I just caught the Mush! The thing was being stupid about it, being all Mushy in front of a camera, but I still feel pretty proud of myself. As a bonus, I'm chief of security so I can actually DO something about it.

So... My newbie game ended about a day or so ago.

I think it was day 4? Maybe day 5?

About half of the crew was inactive, the chief of security was not talking to anyone, ended up grabbing commander from me (Gioele) then totally screwed with our plans to go to a planet and changed course while we were low on fuel WITHOUT communicating to anyone, both mushs ended up being inactive and one died in a fire, and Hua ejected from her ship in space thinking she would appear back on the main ship (Nope).

Was anyone here in the same game as me?

IIRC, Die2Nite put you in a 'newbie' town on your first game. Is Mush anything like that? Because it looks like nobody knows what they're doing.

There is some communication going on. One of my shipmates decided to inventory everything in all the rooms, looking good so far because we know where all the medikits and spacesuits and blueprints are.

Also I just realized that Jin Su has one of the most important roles in the game. I was planning on picking the least useful character so I could stay idle, but turns out that he's pretty damn important. Any tips or threads on how to command a ship? :P

Yeah, your in a newbie ship.

I believe only the current commander can use the command console in the bridge. From there you can change the ship heading and move it. You will want to communicate with other crew and start looking for planets eventually using the astro terminal. You can only see your selection of planets and they can see their own, so they might see better and/or closer planets then you do; Keep communication open with people about it. You are going to want to eventually mount an expedition to one of the planets for supplies, you will need a pilot to take you down with the Icarus. Do not move while someone is out in a ship as I believe you have a good chance on not being able to find them again.

If the commander goes inactive or stays away from the ship for a set period of time the ships A.I. will set the next person in the chain of command as commander. That would be the Chief of Security, then Gioele, and so on after you. Also to move you need someone to put fuel into the combustion chamber, or whatever its called, in the engine room as I think according to the fluff it was damaged or something. My crew got to about day 5/6 or so before the inactive above me in the chain of command became active and thus the commander and totally turned the damn ship around and screwed us over. Also, for gods sake make sure people put out fires quickly. They appear to spread and become a disaster of broken equipment. You lose 2hp per cycle if you end in one. Should be extinguishers in the storage rooms at start.
