Yeah, the film/news spammers are everywhere on the Internet. It's come to the point where I get most of my news from them.

If websites are deranked for spamming, couldnt they start spamming a competitors website to derank them?

I have a suggestion that is probably too far for this particular forum, but if you like it - feel free to mention it to SimpleMachines (link is at the very bottom of this page) developers or something.

When people register a new account - instead of Capchas that are mostly defeated by now - force people's computers to calculate a hash with some special properties (string of zeroes in the beginning) and submit to you their proof of work. Like Hashcash system that was proposed to combat e-mail spam in 1997. Here is a plugin for WordPress blogs that does this.

Additional 5 seconds while javascript on your computer calculates billions of hashes when you register an account is a hardly noticeable delay but would majorly inconvenience forum comment spammers that operate in bulk.

That's pretty neat, actually.

Keep in mind this thread is NOT for discussion of solutions to the spamming problem, just for discussion of the spam and the spambots themselves. We've had that discussion to death in the past and it's not productive.
Just reminding you of the rules in the original post.

You don't understand. Another was posting some very subtle hash-related kitchen puns. You wouldn't notice unless you diced up the post and strained to sieve out the best morsels.

It appears that I'd need finer sieves to parse his post..

Another, are you ...another... advanced spambot?

I mean, we've had several, including that one which used several alternate accounts to make comments at realistic intervals saying the site it was good.

Come to think of it, did someone brew up a combination of all the spambots on this site and make them into Another? :P
Looking through his posts, he's definitely not.

How do we know that you're not just one of them, posing in order to lend them credibility?

One spambot has started nearly over thirty topics in a single forum. All of them for black magic and hypnotism.

Did it get stuck or something?

This same type of 'cure-all magic' stuff seems to dominate the advertisements in my local newspapers as well, oddly enough.

Know what would be funny?
Spamming the email address.

Of course, if it was actually some random person's address, that would be bad.

It seems to be posting new ones at regular intervals. The timestamps on the threads are all separated by about 30 seconds.

You are going to need many more redactions. The number is littered throughout the entire wall of text.

Any ways,
