Recently I've been trying to get into the game by following wiki quickstart guide, but I encountered some problems with managing my depot. When caravan visited my fortress I ordered to haul to it some of my cut gems, but then dwarves casually decided to empty my whole rough gem stockpile. Whenever i manually remove all rough gems from depot they haul it to stockpile and at the same time, start to haul it back to debot. Is there any solution for that annoyance?

I had gem stockpiles divided to "cut" and "rough" part (http://i.imgur.com/aQfL6nt.png) but swapping both to standard gem stockpiles didn't help.

you shouldn't sell your cut gems unless you're desperate to buy something and have nothing valuable

I don't know what that tileset is so maybe hauling to depot works differently in whatever version you're playing but just to make sure you are instructing what to take to the depot by pressing "q", moving the cursor to the depot and pressing "g", right? And then you select the items you want hauled there.

I don't know what you mean by manually removing rough gems from depot...

Are you useing the LNP?  If its one of the newer revisions of it its possible there is a DFhack plugin runing that you could have accidently activated.  Check the stockpile setings on your rough gem stockpile  Look down at the botom and see if there is an option labled "Auto trade"   If its there and set to enabled it means you have a plugin that automaticly marks anything in that stockpile for trading if theres a caravan in your depot.  Set it to disabled and they should stop hauling that stuff back to the depot. note that plugin defaults stockpiles to disabled but its not that hard to turn on by accident.

Are your cut and rough gems stored in the same bins?
