Yea, men and colors just don't seem to get along genetically speaking...

On the other hand isn't it possible that a mutation occurs on an X chromosome that is masked by a dominate other X that women have and men do not? I don't know, genetics and I just don't seem to get along...

It's possible and happens plenty, but dominant malignant traits don't survive for long in an evolutionary sense, so such mutations are just...what we consider standard fare. Edit: Actually, I'm not sure what you're asking after reading that again.

To answer the inevitable next question, the Y chromosome is so short that significant mutations linked to it are very, very rare.

I think you correctly interpreted me the first time? Maybe?
Basically it would be possible for such a mutation to occur on the X chromosome that it is recessive, and therefor in women it is less common because they have another X to cover it up. In men it would be more common because the Y chromosome is very short and unlikely to be able to mask the mutation.

I think I remember why I was bad at biology now. Explaining this stuff is a lot harder than explaining chemistry or programming.

Yes, that's how X-linked disorders (most famously, red-green colorblindness) usually happen and why they're mostly a problem for men.

I remember why I was bad at biology: Laziness.

No, the difficulty is finding a rare true tetrachromatic human and convince her (odds are high that it's a her) to have her eye lens removed in the name of science.
Best pick up line.

Hmm. The wiki says many birds, insects, and reptiles are tetrachromat. Spider vision just got a lot weirder. But more relevantly, it seems unlikely that we will get a answer to this, at least until eye surgery gets more advanced and removing someones lens isn't quite so bad.

UV is mainly sensed by birds. Other tetrachromats turn their attention towards infrared.

Because it was not yet the correct time for me to justify PingTW with your PTW.

I find it funny that the last five posts on this thread by other people have been PTW's. At this rate there'll be nothing to watch!

If cyborg driving bans aren't your thing, then tell me what y'all think of Caloric Restriction as a means to enhancing life expectancy.

Not worth it, personally. I enjoy physical activity too much for something like that to be an option. All for increasing the efficiency of bodily systems to require less energy, but caloric restriction is too much "immortality through lethargy" for me. My personal end goal for transhumanism is too close to HedonismBot for that.

Speaking of, the above eye discussion made me want to plate my next car's hubcaps in tetrachrome 0_o

Just seems like good old "Don't eat too much" with a fancy name slapped on it.
