And again, #Bay12_Saga is open.

Also, should note (as Shonus pointed out yesterday) that pirates MIGHT end up arming a freighter, much like the rebellion does, and use it as a cheap frigate.  It might be a decent idea to--if nothing else--either equip ONE of the y-wings with a torpedo launcher or something.  Alternatively, pick up a small, crappy fighter, ditch its laser cannons, and turn it into a designated bomber/missile boat.   Might actually be cheaper--I dunno how much torpedo tubes cost.

Edit:  Relevant to our campaign, from Darths & Droids:

"Interplanetary commerce is a great theme for a campaign. Some planets will have a surfeit of certain resources, while other planets are bound to lack sufficient quantities of the same thing for their purposes. Entrepreneurial characters can make a killing carting these valuable commodities around the galaxy, from planets where they are dirt cheap to planets where the natives will pay through the nose for them.

The interesting thing is, these commodities don't necessarily need to be the sorts of things we conventionally think of as valuable. Gold is kind of scattered around anywhere there are rocky planets, so you could mine it locally and not have to buy imported stuff. But water...

Actually, bad example. Water is pretty darn common in the universe. If it isn't on a planet, then it'll almost certainly be found on asteroids or comets or other planets in the same solar system. There's absolutely no need to cart it across interstellar distances or invade other planets for it. Certain science fiction movies notwithstanding.

In fact almost any raw material is going to be had relatively nearby, at least within the same solar system, more easily than bringing it from another star system. Which means the most valuable interstellar trade commodities will probably be biological, technological, or cultural.

Yep, the vast star-spanning civilisations of the distant future will not be trading gold , silver, or jewels. They'll be trading ice sculptures, fine wines, and music videos. Remember that if you run a campaign featuring interstellar commerce. "

And once more.  #Bay12_Saga is open, and the server on maptools is up.  Pretty early, true, but we can talk about things and stuff if you want.

If I don't respond quickly, I'm probably eating dinner.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Lt. Stantor and me were prepping our TIEs when the news came in.  Rebellion.  From the looks of things, a bunch of jumped-up terrorists decided to get together and make it a formal thing.

I might be making that sound a bit lighter than it actually is.  From what I've gathered, it's a bigger movement than any others we've seen since the Empire came to power. They've started drawing men up from the garrisons, sending a few fleets out to deal with them.  Dunno if we'll be called.  Hannica doesn't seem to think we will, but I'm not so sure.

---

I was right.  Call came down less than an hour ago, straight from Rear Admiral Ness himself.  I'm a bit surprised he remembered me, to be honest.  I only ever met him once, after a seminar back in my Academy days.

But hey, I'm not going to complain too much.  The man's nigh legendary as a commander, and if he thinks my wing can help, then I believe him.

Even better news:  As part of my new assignment to the Courageous, I've been promoted to full Flight Captain.  Muro's already complaining, but he always does that.  Given his grin, I can tell he thinks I deserve it.  Damn right I do, and it's always nice to see a bit better pay.

---

It’s been two standard months since I’ve heard from sis.  You’d think the girl would be kind enough to drop her big brother a word now and then, but apparently not.  I mean, sure, I know that mobilization has kept things busy and made communication difficult, and even before it wasn’t exactly easy to get a message from half a galaxy away in a decent length of time, but still.

I’m starting to get worried for her.  Usually she contacts me every other week, at least, and the last thing she told me was that she was signing on as a pilot with some group in the outer rim.  Didn’t go into much detail, though she said she’d tell me more next time we met up.   Hope she didn’t join up with a smuggling operation and get caught; what passes for law out there is arguably worse than the pirates.  Hope to hell she wasn’t stupid enough to join up with these new rebel bastards.

I’ve been considering asking my commanding officer for some early leave, so I could go look for her myself.  Ness is a good guy.  He’d probably allow it, even with the situation as it is.  But there’s a war on, now, even if it’s just against some terrorist fucks from some backwater worlds, and we're jumping off to Igalla tomorrow.  I’ll just have to wait and hope.

Kind of have a bad feeling about the Igalla jump.  Muro and Hannica think I worry too much, and the area's supposed to be clean.  They're probably right, but I'm still a bit nervous.
