[group chorus]Hi, Wiles![/group chorus]
Seriously though my situation is somewhat similar (I realized the depth of it when trying to boot Borderlands 2 to go smack the boss for the silly event they're having, accidentally clicked Brutal Legend, and remembered I'd started and intended to play that some more, on top of Batman, Mark of the Ninja, and probably a half-dozen other things I got in sales or from bundles). Hell, I loved the concept (and the execution, for that matter) of Mirror's Edge, went on Summer Vacation in the middle of my playthrough, and had immediately forgotten about it on my return, whether due to my comically-stuffed backlog, new stuff, or just being pestered by others to play something (probably Warframe, at the time) I don't recall.
nenjin also hit on it - a lot of us are playing a lot of games, at least some of us not even the bleeding-edge ones (I was sort of 'out of the world' so I literally have years of games that came out when I didn't know about them or had only heard about from friends). It seems like splitting time amongst playing, hyping, and talking, talking is usually the first to go (at least for single-player games).
Of course, like a bunch of folks, I hit my saturation of 'kinda playable Alphas / kickstarters' quite a while back and continually know the disappointment of 'Oh, that sounds neat! Wait, if it's ever out, I will almost certainly have forgotten about it' when I open a thread. I'm not entirely sure it's that widespread though, as looking at the front page right now the majority of the threads are actually game discussion threads, albeit predominantly multiplayer ones.
I wouldn't say it's necessarily good or bad, but it's certainly an interesting time to be a PC gamer.
