Newbie with adventure, confused about dead peasants
« on: November 03, 2013, 08:13:15 pm »

I think I found my first "temple" but I could not find anyone alive in it. It's the first building I saw in this town so don't know if the whole city is without people? I kept finding peasent corpses inside the temple with them being peasents corpses as a description.

Ive been looking all in the temple, but I just found a person labeled "maceman" and she is following me around. I cant talk to her either. I am assuming she is trying to attack me. Why are all the people in the temple dead besides this hostile maceman, it does not say it is a bandit or anything? I don't understand

are all temples like this?

EDIT

and she killed me.

...

well nevermind then

There are corpses everywhere because temples are where corpses are buried, proper graveyards aren't in the game. Though notable historical figures can get massive tombs outside of towns.

There is no tag that says if a person is a bandit or not, but it is usually a safe bet that anyone inside a catacomb, dungeon, or sewer is a bandit. Especially if they have a military profession or a title such as boss or warlord. If you can't talk to a person, it is usually because they are hostile. But sometimes it is because they can't speak, though that won't happen in an un-modded game unless you manage to get friendly with kobolds.

Sometimes there are more houses in a city than people. Other times there's more than enough people, but for some reason they are all crowded in the same house, ignoring all the perfectly empty ones. It may just be luck that you didn't come across someone in town. Sometimes temples have multiple levels, the priest may have been on an upper floor and you simply missed them.

As far as i know, the temple proper is just the above-ground part, the rectangular building with a pond at the bottom and frequently some kind of roof above. You can usually find a priest somewhere up there. Everything underground are the catacombs, the burial place attached to the temple. And yes, bandits just love to use catacombs as their hideout.
