assassins creed good?
« on: November 02, 2013, 06:12:02 pm »

i am considering getting an xbox 360 when the price drops, and also getting the assassins creed games. i am mainly wondering, about how much should it cost, if i get it used, also i am planning to ffset the costs by trading in my xbox original and games for the original. if you have any advice on the costs or the quality of these items, i would be happy to hear them. have a nice day!

The first one looked very impressive, but I found it to be very monotonous. Free running was a lot of fun but I got more out of Prototype. The multiplayer in its sequels are a lot of fun, but I didn't play single player in those.

Does enough visual and aesthetic things right that you can get a decent RPG vibe out of it, especially if you like the Renaissance. Combat is satisfying but unfortunately too easy. (Especially in the later games.) Free running does get a little monotonous, and this is the series that made "10,000 collectibles spread across the map" a signature Ubi tactic. But the game has quite a few titles behind it's belt and it's a pretty grand experience, all told, across the series. The story is.....it kinda boils down to derpy cliches, but it's reasonably well told. (Assassin's Creed 1 being my favorite.)

AC is pretty gamey in how it's structured, and the first one is the leanest (mechanically speaking) of them all. If you don't like what's in AC1 at all, chances are you won't like what's in later games. If you like AC1 but wish it had more, future games successively build up and round out more game mechanics, added to the core experience.

I like the series, personally, but even I got series fatigue during the 4th game. Once I get through that, AC3 will be like $5, I can play that in a year or so, and buy AC: Black Flag while they've probably put out two more games.

If you can get either the first game or the first couple for under $15, I'd say it's a decent gamble you won't feel like you wasted your money.

I still have to play the 4th one, but, IMO, the best ones are AS2 and its sequels, Brotherhood and Revelations. Getting an Xbox for these games may not the best solution, as they are all available on PC. I would advice you not to buy a xbox if you have a powerful-enough computer to play them and if you intend to buy an xbox just for these games.

It's a fun series with a very straightforward underlying game mechanic (AC1 and onwards: wander the streets, collect info, find target, assassinate target, escape). That is later built up with various side-activities and 'minigames' that had varying degrees of success (the RTS-style base defense in AC2:R was awful, IMO).

But the best thing about it is the story, I feel. Some people absolutely *hated* the semi-futuristic Desmond stuff, but I took to it immediately. The whole concept of regressing through past lives, and the 'bleeding effect', and what all this meant as the story developed was fascinating. Ultimately I was more interested Desmond than the stories of Altair or Ezio-- though these were also interesting and enjoyable. Ezio in particular is a fantastic character whose life is portrayed from birth to death (AC2, AC2:B, and AC2:R). A prevailing opinion that I agree with is that AC2 and AC2:B are the best games in the series.

You can probably get all these off ebay or second-hand for dirt cheap these days, though I don't know about AC3. Incidentally I never played AC3 as I heard the protagonist was kind of boring, and the setting didn't inspire much interest in me. AC4 sounds like it'll be quite fun though.

1 is not great due to repetetiveness, 2 is best, brotherhood is good but starts overdoing it, revelations goes too far, and 3 is basically really boring and repetetive. Or at least that's my opinion.

Yeah Sim... dont take me wrong but where is the simulation if you can duck a volley of cannon by pressing a number? Thats not simulation to me thats fragging arcade. But on the other hand, their is indeed a good feeling about playing pirate, nothing about simulation but about the mecanics and the implementation.

Please dont attach the simulation word on a game where you can get full speed in a sail ship in less than 3 seconds and where you can duck out of cannon shot with the press of a button...

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was a pirate sim. I just meant that it makes a pretty good one, since there aren't very many pirate sims, unless I'm missing something.

Haven't actually played the last one, but if it is like the ship action in the previous game then it's basically motor boats with forceshields and everyone is attending a masquerade party as pirates.
Sad thing how the last good pirate game(not arcadey) was made in 1999 and was quite buggy.

On topic, 1 is good unless you've played the sequels and the last one (not the pirate one) is shit and the story is horrendous.

AC1 is worth every penny and the others aren't. That's all there is to it.

You put forward a solid argument with many great points. Readers will take your opinion very seriously. It was totally worth you posting.
