First sea raider is staying at home, so has no upkeep for the moment.The other is patrolling, and has upkeep.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Oh, and one little question, are there any other nations but my and tryrar's can be attacked from the sea? Just curios :)

well, we could try beachheads if we wanted to go the conquering route. I actually had a magical invention in mind for aiding in this(basically a magical, self-deploying equivalent to a Mulberry Harbor)

I'm still not exactly certain whether combat is solved as part of the regular turn or something in between turns.

Point is I have a few inventions in mind that would arise from battle experience, but I would want to make sure which are them.

I do have a fallback option, though...

I have a question: Would I be able to create something like a hero unit? (I was thinking of along the lines of Royal Archers, which are basically the best of my archers formed into an elite unit)

Yup, though creation at will is unlikely. It's more likely that a unit will evolve to become like that.
