Pretty new, this is my second embark.  I found myself what I thought was a decent spot:



So I embarked and my stream is gone??? Somehow it is spring and temperate has everything grey and snowy but the stream has become a scattered bunch of pools.  Is this normal? How can I be sure I'm embarking on a steam that will be around all winter in a temperate region?  Is it still flowing somewhere?
(Nevermind the abandoned wagon in the screenshot, I abandoned because I thought I had selected wrong then checked and there it was, in the right place).

Check one z-level down. Perhaps it was just frozen. Or just wait until it melts...

Also, if it's a heavily-forested area, there's usually a corridor of bare snow where your river/stream is.

... 'Course, it's easier to just look a z-level down. But it's a fun bit of trivia~

Just give it awhile, the snow and ice will melt as the season advances.
