Author Topic: Let's Play Dwarf Fortress Masterwork mod! [4th update][roleplay]  (Read 1918 times)

I hitched the donkeys faster to the majestic mountain in the distance. The other 6 cheared and began telling tall tales of riches and amazing crafts that will make us good for all we need. I was a little less than impressed, but I knew that that mountain would sustain our lives. I beamed and started going over things we need to made.

We parked in a field next to a suitable spot. We took inventory. I asked Urist to go around and make sure we are picking the best spot before we get settled in. I asked Bego to look for berries and scout out any animals we can use for food. The rest I told to designate some clean areas and sort out our gear. I left them to go chop some wood.

With my axe and dog max we explored the dense forest. It was hard to see too far ahead so we took it slow, listening to the sounds. I smile to Max, "I bet they have never seen a cut down tree In the entirety of this world. I started chopping. One downswing, then an upswing, and a push. Fell right over. I smiled. There's nothing better than emjoying your work.

As I scrapped the limbs off, I snapped to my feet. I heard dwarves screaming. They were running to me. Their eyes were dark and their faces pale a d out of breath. They were scared.

"Boors, Jamon, where are the other four? What is happening?"

Urist went crazy! He was just staring at the ore he uncovred! Wont move, wont eat, wont talk. Nothing. We need your help.

He did not find Urist in the cave. They found his clothes and his pick on the ground. Crazy Dwarf. A high pitched scream echoed through the cavern as Urist jumped on Boors naked, wild eyes and rage. Three large meta constructs came around the boulder and immediately attacked eery dwarf in sight.  "Metalwraiths slay all!"

I grabbed the pick left on the ground and drove it quickly through what I suspect is the monsters shoulder. It stopped and rotated it's heads, lights on its face growing brighter. The other dwarves got jumped and frantically trying to escape but failing.

"Kill all humans!"

But we're not humans! We're Dorfs! You don't need to kill us! We can leave or help your kind! Make you metal! Just let us live!

The metalwraiths said no. They crushed my dwarves skulls in front of me. There was only me left as they gathered around, chanting robotically. This is it Armok. This is what you had planned for your faithful? A newbie land? Full of newbie stuff to do?

The screen went black

Next update! Fortress 2! Less digging!

That should be called - fear the ore:) Don't dig silver or gold before you are ready, seriously.

Good read.  I always like seeing threads like this.  Too bad we can't use Armok's ward to reveal wraith infected tiles.  Seems like he would want to help his favorite creations.

Urist woke up covered in ash. Raptors. Fire. Urist coughed. It wasn't just a nightmare.

Urist stood up up in the still warm burnt grass. Embers danced off the ground in the midst of snapping and roasting. Burnt oxen and moles littered the dirt, forever silent. Black and gray grass spawned all along the horizon. Trees still blazed in the distance.

Urist lurched slowly to the stores of booze. His left leg was burnt and useless. The booze can't be gone. We can eat the roasted animals, but if there's no booze...The upturned ashy barrels told everything. Everything was lost. Urist knelt down, gripping his tattered remains of his clothes.

Kris ran up to him. She had been mining when everything happened. She stared silently, taking the scenery in.

"What happened?" She asked, tears welling up in her eyes.

Urist laid back, staring at the smoke rising into the sky. "I have no idea."








There was nothing over there. After the raptors took out half my livestock, this just happened. I went through the logs and no clues. There was literally nothing at the epicenter of this. I didn't even bring anything explosive or that could even catch anything on fire.

Ten minutes into the game. I had just dug out my bedrooms, not even a dining room yet.

Why, Armok? Why? :(

If it was a mage, it would have been in the combat logs and the dwarf therapist. Damn Khris, you got no luck. ^^

I went through gamelog.txt to see if there was anything I missed. I had an Ashkin in my initial group. The only two significant things that happened was a masterwork was created, and I got immigrants. The fire started right after that.

My new fortress actually has a level 3 firemage, and that's the first time I've seen it.

I'll just go with a freak firestorm and carry on with a new fortress.

Meph noticed that dwarfes were burning too often:) Unfortunately all fire-based things are too dangerous. Maybe you would just give them some cooldown so that they start spilling fire after 1 year or 6 months after moving in? I don't know how to do it but it will give people chance to at least dig in a little before inevitable firestorm. And maybe some kind ofannouncement which will say you got a mage then they arrive.... so people could immidiately atom-smash themor put them to mining:)

thats possible, but would also affect the firemages you make yourself in the emberblaze altars. so not an option.

Too much work for the player. I simply make the natural firemages more rare. Same effect, no more surface fires.

And I knew that things often burned down, in my forts as well. its just that I usually start these fires on purpose. Very useful.

Well it is FUN after all - make them less rare. Let there be even more fire mages. They love magma after all. So why not make all enemies burn hehehe. OH NO MY BOOZE TOO.... Well maybe make a button - secret fiery FUN in the GUI and make fire mages really abundant:)
