well, do you mean REALLY cheap tricks, or just cheesy tricks?

if you want cheesy tricks to annoy the enemy with, use Klefki (prankster) with substitute, thunderwave, swagger and foul play, or togekiss (or jirachi) with serene grace, thunderwave, a move that has a 30% chance to flinch and a healing move. likewise using pokemon who set out all entry hazards and then using roar or whirlwind can induce a lot of rage

if you mean REALLY cheap tricks, google FEAR strategies

also, I was interested in a tournament all along, though we might not have enough participants. Only Culise, GWG and me participate regularly. I Suppose with a 4th active fighter we could start a small tournament.

Question to all: who would like to participate in a tournament, and what should the theme of the tournament be?

I'm not sure what the different is. I want effective tricks like the ones that keep being used on me.

I'd be interested.

One idea that came to mind would be some sort of thing where we started with one starter Pokemon in the first round and could add other Pokemon during later rounds, but that might be a bit complex.

Sounds like a plan. We might need to adopt non-elimination rounds, but that works out--we'd all be playing all through the tournament.

I thought it would be fun to do this again so I made a team, I would also be willing to join the tournament if you do need more people

Sounds like it could be fun.  I would definitely be game for such a unique tourney structure.  I wonder, though, how the remaining slots would be filled.  Maybe go with a early/mid/late route breakdown?  Maybe the second Pokemon must be before the second gym in its original game of origin, third Pokemon before the fourth, fourth before the sixth, fifth before the eighth, and sixth from any point in the game, including Victory Road and post-game regions?  Maybe that would be difficult to track, though...

humm, so so far, we have 5 participants. Unless we get a 6th player, we will have to go with a point system, where everyone has to battle against everyone once in each round.

the battles in the first 3 rounds will give 1 point per victory, the later 3 rounds 2 points per victory, meaning a perfect score would be 36 points (4+4+4+8+8+8)

The new pokemon that is added each round is secret (except for what is revealed in the replays, of course), however after a round is finished, the pokemons data must be posted in detail, so everyone can start thinking about what to take to counter what you previously had problems with, and of course it becomes an entire meta game once we start thinking about what people will take to counter you, or to counter those who defeated them, etc. My head is already steaming.

I'll wait another 24 hours in case any additional players show up (we can always hope, right?) and then will call out the tournament. Hopefully, despite time-tone differences, we can finish the first round quickly.

Shall we start working on a list of Pokemon allowed each round? For instance, are we allowed any generation's starters in Round 1 or just Gen 1's?

I liked Culises idea, and evolved a bit. We shall start as 5 rivals from the same dwarven stronghold city.

before I discuss the details of how each round is formed, it is required that you answer me one question BEFORE the rules are given in detail.

And that is your signature pokemon. Your absolute favourite. The broest of bros, the one you can awlways count on, and who always makes it into the team. (as long as he is non-uber and non-legendary)

for me, that would be Gastrodon.

what is it for you, GWG, Culise, Rolepgeek and Kansa?
and of course you, yet unnamed rival who shall hopefully emerge before the journey begins! Hihi2436 maybe?

Charizard. He hasn't failed me yet...at least, not more than everyone else on the team. Assuming he's not fighting Water-types.

For me it would have to be Gardevoir, it's been my favourite pokemon since it was introduced

Oh, that is a tough one.  I've had several over the generations, including Ninetales, Gardevoir, and Gliscor, while a quick review of all my teams reveals that a Forretress has almost always been in there, keeping a silent but steady presence.  Ultimately, though, for me, it definitely has to be Volcarona, the Sun Pokemon and the most elegant Atlas moth.  ^_^

very good, so all we are waiting for is rolepgeek. Timezones be damned, but he should roll around soonish. Then I will proclaim the rules, in all their needless complexity
