On a side note, it would be wrong to be me to describe 4 as high fantasy. Depending on playstyle, it's quite possible to end up with Victorian tech/ magitech by mid/end game.

Here are some preliminary mechanics. Might change in the future. As you can see, the initial start is quite city state ish.

Spoiler: Nation sign-up sheet (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Science (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Magic Ideas (click to show/hide)

I'm still taking new ideas for both the classes. Do note that these are mere ideas. Taking Travel by air as your first pick won't do anything. Unless you have the required prerequisites, it will stay just that, an idea.

Effects will be added later.

Could you please clearly explain the way magic is going to work?

I'll have a sheet up by morning.

For formations do we design our own or does it just cover them all?

And so, here at the end of days, you are as you’ve always been. Willing to die. Not willing to quit.

Vengeance is mine saith the Lord but this morning. He's going to fucking well have to share.

Is she worth it, would you burn the city to save her? For her, I'd burn the world.

Explaining, yes. Clearly, might be hard.

Instead of that, you get a general explanation of how science works. Whenever you amass enough science points, or whatever I'm going to use for that, you can choose to either get 1 new idea, or 1 new invention. An invention is made by combining several ideas. For example:

-Travel by Sea + Mass Travel => Long range galleons
-Magical Husbandry + Mounted Troops => Troops mounted on Magical animals

Individual formations would be (though don't need to be) developed in this way.

Also, a lot things hasn't been added yet, so making a sheet based on this is pointless.

For magic, you need to have source of magic (Infrastructure), and then some offensive spells. (Developed as inventions). The amount of magical power determines how usefull they are in battle. Magical wells are for example very useful for domestic production, but not mobile enough for defense. For that you might want to use mana crystals. Runes are something like inscribing spelld.

Why not use something realistic instead, like gaining progress to specific ideas based on the usage of previous ideas? (i.e. you gradually and automatically get more advanced farming tools if you have a nation of farmers but you won't be able to have a nation of farmers with stone tools and out of nowhere instaresearch mounted knights with guns and laserships)

I'm filling a sheet, but mostly because of a sudden idea rather than a true desire to play a game which hasn't been totally planified. (This doen't mean that I won't play, but I will decide when this is properly armed).
Spoiler: The heighteners (click to show/hide)
I know that it may be pretty impossible to get a nation like this at the start of the game, but I think that I will aim at something like this in the long-term.

Not the way it works actually. I mean, if you don't have a correct prerequisitive technologies, the idea remains an idea.

And slow progress is very intensive to research.

Well then, in my suggestion replace "idea" with "technology" and add manual research ability of specific ones. I still think that generic science points that can be spent on anything are unrealistic bullshit.

I'm not sure that the dichotomy between "idea" and "Tech" to be that distinct TBH.

A few questions 10ebbor10:
  • Are all of the things you've listed so far ideas, or are there some technologies?
  • If they are all ideas, how would we go about getting farms (if we don't start off with them or something)?
  • For that matter, what abilities do we start off with (if any)?
  • Is there a limit to how many ideas we can combine to form a tech, or can we combine as many ideas as makes sense?
As for my nation/citystate/whatever, I think I'm going to reprise Torkal (apparently just "Torkal") from Dolusil and take over the world with enchantments and superior organisation.

...Noted. I will try mixing semi-contradictory ideas and see if I get swordguns or something.
