A new game (ooc, discussion, interest check)
« on: October 29, 2013, 09:34:36 am »

Thinking of running another forum game, but I'm not exactly what kind. So, here're some possible ideas, and me looking to see what people are interested in. They're fairly abstracted, but I do have more detailed settings and mechanics for all of them. A mix of new ideas and remakes, mostly.

Idea 1: Suggestion Game

You're building up a fairly large extrasolar colony. The first of it's kind, possibly. Setting does not feature FTL vehicles, nor warp drives. FTL communications are possible, but very expensive.

Idea 2: Competitive Multiplayer Design game

6 players each manage a spaceship construction company, it's their goal to design and market their vessels, and outsmart their opponents. Features a futuristic setting, with warp. (Also, significantly less complexity than the Space Race games. In fact, there are no related mechanics.)

Idea 3: Character based Space Pirates

Multiple (total amount unknown) players who fly around in their spaceships in a far futuristic setting. Features a universal wide threat, a slightly oppressive galactic government, AI, maybe psionics, and an asteroid base that serves as hide-out and OOM (out of Mission) thread.

Idea 4: Competitive "High medieval" Fantasy "Empire" builder

Featuring a novel (for me) tech system, choose your own blend of technology, mix and match magic and science, and explore the opportunities. Also, combat, expansion and discovery.

Idea 5: Other

I dunno. Suggestion are welcome.

Note: Ideas intentionally kept vague. Can give more information if requested.

Are you a GM with players who haven't posted? TheDelinquent Players Help will have Bay12 give you an action!

#4, probably (though all the times I've seen this attempted on this forum, the end result was either death within two turns or a game simplified into stupidity and dead within five turns).

Maybe you could run my robot suggestion outlined in rough terms here? ^_^

4 and hope that mechanics won't overdo itself.

Certainly interesting, thought I'm afraid I'm not going to do something like it now.

So the general consensus seems to be number 4, with good mechanics. I got some ready, but others still need work. At this point, the general idea is to have a mix between abstracted and freeform elements, rather than putting numbers on every little thing.

№2 fits my tastes but I largely prefer suggestion games to competitive, mostly because suggestion games tend to live longer lives

I'd !!love!! Salvation remake\continuation on the new game system, not sure if want it character based...

Bioweapon remake could be fun, too

Also I always wanted a forum game with player taking a role of some kind of WW2 commander. Large scale or small scale, army or navy or airforce. Historical WW2 or otherwise. Whatever country

It's pointless, 10ebbor10 never chooses players based on who did "reserved" post\wrote character sheet first

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.
