Lannah Creel had stayed quiet and listened, tinkering with her helmets audio. It sounded odd.

"Lannah Creel...uhh, JK-0577.

And I'd just as soon be out there fighting the real war, as well."
She said, trying to sound confident.

She certainly wasn't a clone, but had spent many years fighting all the same. It seemed to her you couldn't exactly earn any respect from the 'old guard' however-it was a large part of why she never seemed to rise in rank, she believed. She had seen the holos of the old days, like everyone-the heroic clones charging hordes of skeletal robots (scenes or even references to any jedi carefully edited out, of course) with blasters in hands. It was why she became a stormtrooper in the first place. The job wasn't how she imagined it would be...but, one learned to cope.

She had been in the first generation of enlisted non-clone troopers, and was proud of it.

Stormtroopers were not really allowed to personalize armor, like the clones had once, but Lannah had taken their cue and done it anyway-there was an image of a playing card on her left shoulder, a dancing female joker. A harlequin. A relic, even of this age. She sometimes wondered if even this small act of self identity had been enough to deny her promotion.

"Aye, sounds like an easy job. Intel say the natives don't really have any technology to speak of...but, intels usually bantha-piss anyway.

...One thing I can say, the natives do always know the land. Spent a tour on Felucia-fought in the 76' Twilek uprising there. They knew every hole in that planet. Depends how hard they wanna hold out...we might be here for awhile."

Lannah frowned behind her helmet, remembering three years battling disease, giant alien bugs and stormtrooper-eating plantlife. Not to mention the Twileks-she remembered their snipers firing shots over their camp at night to keep them from sleeping. Ugly little war. They had won though, in the end. Or command said they had won. same thing.

Caiteriona groaned at Jevan's query. "Un-kriffing-fortunately, this'll be my first real mission. They kept sticking me on guard duty or stuff for the most safe locations. However... Your strangely depressive mood aside, this is probably a better first combat assignment than most."

"At least you're on a nice planet for your first op. I reckon you take off your helmet, the air smells nice and clean-instead of burning out your lungs or catching you a friendly fungus.

Anyway, just keep an eye out, right? Don't get cocky-remember your training and try not to die-they cut our death benefits again this month. Might as well live till the Empire can afford a proper coffin for you."
She said, laughing-though, through the filter of her mask, her laughter was mechanical and mirthless.

Caiteriona sighed and spoke under her breath. "Wow, might as well start a pessimist count here. Bet it'd turn out really high."

Lannah heard and nodded. Her smile was hard beneath her mask.

"1st rule of the corps. If anything can go wrong, it will.

For example, say...your shiny speeder has an leaky actuator, it's bound go bust in the middle of rebel country..."
She said, trailing off, leaving the next line open for someone else.

This was actually a little game some of the older soldiers played before a mission-each member of a squad listing absolute worse case scenarios, each one worse than the one that came before. It did wonders for the nerves. She wondered if any of the others would pick up on it.

"Doesn't matter what they have. What matters is that I'm in here, wasting time, when I could be out there, being useful. Doesn't matter what or who I'm fighting as long as I'm out there." The old clone turned to look at Jevan again. "So, where are you from? You look and sound too young to be from Kamino."
"I'm a clone, as it so happens. Not much else to say."

Caiteriona groaned at Jevan's query. "Un-kriffing-fortunately, this'll be my first real mission. They kept sticking me on guard duty or stuff for the most safe locations. However... Your strangely depressive mood aside, this is probably a better first combat assignment than most."
"So it seems, so it seems...just remember, no plan survives contact with the enemy."

"Now, that's the spirit." Jevan chuckled a bit.

Caiteriona sighed and spoke under her breath. "Wow, might as well start a pessimist count here. Bet it'd turn out really high."
"Pessimism keeps you alive, Cait. Always prepare for the worst, even if you hope for the best. Because, let me tell you, the world is never the best...and sometimes, it's worse than you can possibly imagine."

Lannah heard and nodded. Her smile was hard beneath her mask.

Jevan hasn't been around long, and he didn't really play games like this.
"...Go on."

"Alright, cut the chatter troopers." The lieutenant says, as he exits the barracks. The remarkably short man (In comparison to you) calmly walks to the front of the formation to address you.

"Alright troopers, listen up. We've got reports of contacts pelting the construction site once more, go in and eliminate the scum that dared to attack the empire. MOVE OUT!"

"Right. Let's go." 2786 saluted the lieutenant and walked out, not waiting for the rest of the team. He had a location and a target and he was ready.

Lannah tags along, somewhat annoyed the ritual was interrupted.

She couldn't quite get her helmet's audio to work, though...

"Damn thing still sounds funny." She mutters to herself.

"Make one of the engineers look at it. That's their job," 2786 replied as Lannah caught up to him. He glanced over at her. "So, you fought for the Empire for long?"

6824 nodded and began moving out about half a second before the order was given.

0777 nodded and gave a quick salute as the Lieutenant gave out the orders, when he finished 0777 grabbed his rifle from where he left it and began to follow the others who were already making their way there. There was a slight part of him that felt conflicted about killing Ewoks, but the larger part knew and accepted he was made to serve the Empire, at the very least he would do that well ...

Dar'Manda stood slinging his rifle across his chest and walked out following the rest without acknowledging his orders.

Cait smiles a little, puts on her helmet, grabs her rifle, and sets out to shoot some little furry annoyances.

Soon the squad reaches the area where the impudent scum had scurried off to, yet all the found in the clearing was a standard image of endor: Lots of trees, bushes and and a whole lot of ground cover. Strangely enough, there was nothing here apart from the troopers. Or that they had started to hide...

((Mind if I request that we get colored borders or something for our pogs, so we know who is who?))

"Alright. Everyone stay together, keep your eyes open, and if you hear something, for the Force's sake don't just wander off into the woods to investigate."

((I'm imagining that "the Force" might be used a lot like "God" is today: Even people who don't believe in it use it in epithets.))

"Make one of the engineers look at it. That's their job," 2786 replied as Lannah caught up to him. He glanced over at her. "So, you fought for the Empire for long?"

It was odd she hadn't ever actually thought of the question, Lannah mused internally. She had to do the math out loud, not trusting an awkward silence.

"Well, I officially joined at 15-the Imperial Youth League right out of primary schooling, finished my training by 17-went for them AT core, but I got bumped because of low mechanics aptitude, could never wrap my head around hardware...first ground combat I had that year on Ord Ibana, putting down a Hutt gang war. I'm 28 now, all raw nerves and old scars-how the Empire likes us. Been fighting as long as I've been in the service. One battle, or another. It all starts to flow together after awhile. What about you? How many years have you served?" She asked.

((I figure we can still RP, SC-actions just take place afterwards))

...

Scanning the area, her rifle was up. She still had a healthy concern for enemies that seized the high ground, so she began scanning the treetops...

Action: Lannah holds a reaction fire in case anything pops up, and scans for enemies. Watch the trees!

((@Gwg: I'd imagine the empire would frown on the use by stormtroopers, though, :P Palpatine sought to destroy even the memory that the Jedi ever existed.))
