Liquid cooling pipes in the asteroids surface rock, yay cold exterior to thwart thermal imagery.

Its not like some larger asteroids dont have molten iron cores anyway.
There's one, Lutetia, where it's a significant possibility.

Also, using the rock as a heat sink... will warm up the rock. Especially when you're dumping waste heat that, judging from the construction of a spaceship, the running of a superintelligent AI, and a continuous smelting process probably amounts to at least a few megawatts

The pipes are to cool the rock not dump heat in it...

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Well, you still have the problem that you need to dump the heat somewhere.

But well, looking like an asteroid is much easier than disappearing completely. After all, you don't need to remove your emissions, merely modify them to correspond.

Thats my point, you cool the surface to corresponding levels and direct the heat toward the center of the asteroid, you look like any other asteroid and use the excess heat to melt ore or something then ditch all the molten slag when noones looking.

In speaking, someone's always looking.

But still, while the point remains that we apparently can't bring an asteroid sized ship to FTL speeds. The main advantage of an asteroid however is that you don't need too store the energy inside, after all, when they receive energy from the sun's asteroids naturally sublimate. Ours will be slightly brighter, because we're sublimating a little bit of mass to cool ourselves, but that won't be noticed much.

We can use a modular design inside the asteroid.  Our core can be inside a small warship that's secured in place, and that can be jettisoned if need be- an escape pod, if you will.  The asteroid can just serve as a useful hiding place and shield.  Besides, even if we can't bring it to FTL speeds, we can probably speed it up somewhat and move it slowly from one location to another.  Gravity slings, anyone?

Truly, we can. But at this point, we haven't really noticed anything interesting in this system yet. It appears to be quite deadish.

Indeed.  Maybe we should go mobile until we find a proper frame for our base.

Quite resourceful for a deadish region however.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I find energy weapons and a destroyed planet interesting, surely the moon guys know what happened.

How about we research gravitational technology, research a mobile gravity well, then attract an asteroid near to the station? A nice large one for hollowing purposes, which would help void the internal space problem.

Also, we assume there is life on the moon. We are devoid of life, but yet we exist and produce signals and such, there is no saying the moon signatures aren't AI's, energy beings or whatnot.

I think we'll be stuck on the first one for a long time. Also, it's possible that usefull asteroid is quite far away, and attracting it will also attract a lot of other debris.

Not to mention that attracting it will not put it in the same orbit as us. It will simply pass by.

If we had two, depending on their strength it would be possible to guide it into an orbit similar to ours, it doesn't have to be an identical orbit, naturally, just similar.

Also, it's more of a long term goal then a, "lol next update k" goal

Whatever is down there on that moon, the moment they see us getting an asteroid near orbit - that moment they will throw pretty much anything they can muster straight at us. Asteroid - do it right and with the right size and nothing we could  build in years can compete in raw destructive power.

... which means I am so "In" on that plan! The one about changing ones orbit, thou moving base is fine too. Just for other reasons, mind me. (°▽°)
