Noob questions on LNP and mouse control
« on: October 25, 2013, 12:30:21 pm »

Hey guys, I am a noob at DF and really want to learn the game so I downloaded the newest version of lazy Newb Pack and I see that there is a file there that I can edit to either enable or disable the mouse. Here is my question: is the # sign in front of the commands mean it's enabled or disabled? And how do you vets play the game and what mouse settings you have on and or off? Thanks...

P.S. One more question is Slaves To Armok a expansion to DF or a seperate game and what is it like?

I don't use the LNP, so I'm not sure what settings are right, but mouse should be turned on by default. If you're in Fortress Mode, you can test it by pressing (d)-(t) to designate trees - if you click on a tree, the tile should change.
The mouse is used in only a few menu options though - designations and the military menu mostly - so you'll have to use the keyboard 90% of the time.

Slaves to Armok was the predecessor to Dwarf Fortress. It's sort of like a very early version of Adventurer Mode but with really crappy 3D graphics. It was abandoned in 2004 because development was too slow.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

I use the pack, but never use the mouse except when wanting to see what an icon means real quick(just hover the mouse over it) sometimes. It's much quicker and easier to use the keyboard in my opinion since everything required by the game uses the keyboard anyways. Though I am far from being a vet, and yes it defaults to being on.

The # sign indicates a comment, and means that the command is disabled. Basically DF ignores any lines which start with a # symbol.

A lot of vets play the game without any mouse interaction. Personally I don't use any tilesets or utilities besides Dwarf Therapist, and I don't even really need that.

This guy gets it, the problem with the child torture dungeon is that they weren't set on fire first.
