I love the Era of the Three Kingdoms, from "Dynasty Warriors" to the movies and stories told from that era. But every time I try and load up a game of RoTK from that of early to modern, I get confused... It is sad that even these days the games leave me braindead...

The newer ones CERTAINLY have more "fancy" then the NES and SNES ones XD
Fancy as in "flights of" not "fancy graphics" :P

Fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, etc. Alt-history's alright, and I appreciate it for what it is, but it leaves my jimmies unrustled.

I would like to read the novels, but I'm not sure if I could find them in English. Or if the English translation would actually do it justice XD
There's at least one (I think more than one) english translation to be found, online, legitimately free. From what I recall, it was decently done, though I don't read the original language so obviously I couldn't say as to the quality of the translation work itself... just that it read fairly easy for what it was. Here is at least one of them. Ads are a bit annoying and you have to scroll down to find the meat of it, but it's there (also has a download option!). Wikipedia's suggesting you want to find the full Moss Roberts translation (Came out in '91) if you're looking for the better one, though.

There's also a definitely non-zero chance (the book is one of the world's major pieces of literature) your local library system may have the text somewhere within it. Interlibrary loan, etc., etc. E: Looks like the paperback set's running about twenty bucks online, if that's your thing and the price is right. If you want the books, you can get them :P

Blurgh, bringing up old wounds... >.>  I should grab that computer the info was on and see if I could salvage it... maybe.  Gotta figure out where the borrower put it and what damage was done to it...

7/8 are my favouritest, because they're the most RPG-y.
This.  I love being able to sign up as someone's vassal in those two.  When it changed to how it did in like ~9 and on, where you play as the ruler of a faction and -only- the ruler, I was sad.

I really like the dynamic background generator thing the latest games have for created officers, though.

Anyway, yeah.  I think it's up to 12 or so now.

10 actually went back to the same sort of game 8 was. 10 was the height of the series, in my opinion, but I've not played them all, so I shouldn't judge. In either case, if you loved 8, try 10, it's more of the same and in some ways better.

I have XI downloaded from an IGN subsidary that ended up falling through. I had pretty much every game of this since the PS1 era, as I've always been a fan of grand strategy games, if not particularly good at them.

I remember once getting bored with playing the premade characters I would create max stat families with the surname Blah, so Blah Blah being the leader, Blah Blahette his wife, Blah Blun, etc. It got fun to mess around and unite China under the Blah ruling. I need to go back into 10, as I remember highly of being able to screw around with a single character, and leading an empire only when you felt like it.

You could also go around and murder just about every character if you had the stats and inclination to.

You could also go around and murder just about every character if you had the stats and inclination to.
But you can do that in all the ROTK games.  The seventh game was particularly bloody, as the AI characters as rulers were quite fond of executing anyone they got their hands on.

You don't need to be a ruler... and by murder, I literally mean mug their HP on the map with your own character.

Ah yes, I remember trying to rob Yuan Shu of the Imperial Seal with a premade character. Unfortunately it's unstealable.

And so begun one man's campaign for the Imperial Seal...

I wasn't aware characters could die from those muggings.  I'll have to try that, he he he...

I remember playing as one of them Warlordy High-Int type created officers, and Cao Cao rolled up and slew my Create-an-officer dad (Cao Cao slew my CAO, honk) and ruler of my kingdom, so I resigned and moved into to whatever city he was living in, and then proceeded to try to slay him all the time.  I had to do a training montage and everything, to get my piddly ~60ish War up to it's cap of like 73 or so, to slay harder.

My attempts were complicated by the fact that he had Lu Bu as a bodyguard, but yeah. A year or five of living in the same city, spending like 80% of my waking hours practicing murdering people - presumably under a bridge somewhere where the guards wouldn't find me over the course of five years - in-between trying to and usually failing to sneak into the palace, past an army of guards AND Lu Bu, to stick a sword in Cao Cao's gut.

And then I actually did it, and buggered off.  And then I tried to get a job, but everyone was like scared and/or mistrustful of me.

I guess lurking and spending a couple years trying to murder a guy is pretty shady, even if it was totally a legit vengeful endeavor.

Well, you have the option of finishing em and letting em go once you win.  But then, I've played both the PC/untranslated version and the console version.

My experience is with the console version.  Since it doesn't have bodyguards, it might also lack the murder feature.

This needs to be sigged, but I'm too lazy to do it.

7/10 Has much more memorable sigs but casts them to the realm of sigtexts.

Indeed, I do this.
