Candy Box 2 - The Clickening
« on: October 24, 2013, 10:40:31 am »

So there was a game a while back called Candy Box.

Today, the sequel came out.

The premise is that you are...well, accumulating candies, and later lollipops. Many, many things ensue from this, and it's a surprisingly deep game.

During the course of discussion, kindly avoid spoilers, or hide them in the tags so as to not ruin the experience for people.

Found what looked like a problem , don't know if it was the browser i used (was playing it with a portable version of Iron) but :
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

edit 1 : Oh great, while i was with the squirrel the page just went down, guess it's under heavy traffic right now, and refreshing, it went back at ... the beginning, all the unlocked items are not there, i had to wait again until i could access the cfg and save setting, i still see my previous save in slot 1 but if i click on the bottom of the page to load it ... page unavailable.

I guess i'll try again in a few days, judging from the popularity of the 1st version, there must be a lot of people clicking there :D

edit 2 : Worked again, but this time the problem i put in the spoiler didn't happened, the clickable box was displayed visually.
Hmm wonder why it happened.

Remember to equip or re-equip your weapons in the inventory screen.  It's not done automatically!

Yes, same with piece of armors, when you get a new one, it's not equipped by default.

To avoid the odd problem i got with the page unavailable, i recommend from time to time, to use the text save (just copy paste the whole thing in a text file), so in case the save is oddly lost, you can still recover it.

I, while waiting on my candies to come up, finally managed to beat the Computer from the first one. Gah.

It's so weird having the extra tab that unlocks.

Found a problem related to some specific quest when you wear a specific item that will make you stuck in it (fortunately you can still quit but you can't progress in it)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Something i like in that new version is that unlike previously you're not stuck with an enchanted item when you don't like the original enchantement , in this version you can find/buy multiple version of those items and so you can give them the various enchantment and wear the ones you want in various quests.

Argh, treasure container of endurance. It has one million health and I am taking forever to kill it.

Fortunately, weighing down the hotkey for the highest damage spell I have (~500 damage) accelerates the killing process greatly.

I better get like fifty billion candies for this.

Is there some way to move around aside from mindlessly walking right and teleporting?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Because I've run into a few maps where it seems like you're expected to be able to move, especially since

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Aside from that, teleportation and walking forwards, there's no way of moving around.

There is an item that will make it so you don't walk forwards automatically - instead, you can only move while airborne. That's the extent of the movement modifying items I've found thus far, though.

I think I like the original game better because the main appeal was to find out how deep the game goes. Every upgrade was a surprise. In this one, you get thrown to the world map after your first quest. It kind of ruins the suspense.

Aside from that, I do like that there is surprisingly little grinding involved. The dungeons are better, there are some neat puzzles every now and then and the cauldron isn't as important. I enjoy it a lot.

I stopped playing at the same point as the last game, which is at the cauldron. I really hoped they would've removed or fixed it for this version, but no. It's still pretty much a twice as annoying version of a Quick Time Event.

I really did enjoy the "throw candy on the ground" sequence though.

The cauldron in this game is a lot less used - there were three things I used it for and they were

as well as spamming out a bunch of health pots, once. There's no longer the "make ALL the potions!" that existed in the original.
