He's certainly made more extensive use of shading, but action sequences are just as difficult to decipher. It's something about the colors he uses, I think. Anyway, I guess it's too early to say he's got better or worse. I'll watch it though, it was decent before.

His colors are just way too messy to actually have any sense of motion in them.

Did he just Sunder Kore's armor with an Unarmed Attack?
Not exactly? I'm not quite sure how it would be statted, but his punching hand is covered by the weapon part of a magical warhammer, or somethin' along those lines. I guess it'd be rolled as an unarmed, insofar as hitting would be concerned, but the damage/interactions re: sundering et al would be notably different than a plainclothes unarmed attack.

Seems like a temporary natural attack...  Who knows what the attack bonus would be, but I'm sure there is one.

As for the sundering, this comic has always played pretty loose with the rules anyway, like a lot of good GMs :P  But the fist might get a hefty bonus to sundering (due to weight) or disarming (due to being a hand).

I think the real takeaway is that Forgath just became a monk saw a familiar face.  Based on his reaction, and Kore's revealed beard and eyebrow, I think the alt-universe Forgath theorist were right.  (Though I'm holding out hope for the many-eyed thing.  Like... an alienist paladin)

I think he's playing it up for entertainment value. I like the new site, I like how he's' telling the story and not keeping it constrained by rules that would otherwise prevent things he's getting done.

Truth be told I'm not too surprised by the continuing grimness of the comic, though - this IS a Kore segment.

The story has always taken priority over the rules in this comic.

I do hope he lightens the tone a bit, but I don't think he needs to drop the current story arc to do that right now. Although if Kore dies here (and he doesn't take Forgath out with him somehow), I think the comic will get a lot cheerier overall.

It seems like it's coming to a head right now, so we should be seeing a 'Minmax bonds with filthy gobbo scum other protagonists' scene or two after this.

Taking another look at the scene, it really seems like a combination of Luke VS Vader fights in episode 5 and episode 6.
Think about it one second:
-Kore's an unstoppable death machine in impervious armor hiding his identity
-He has respiratory problems ever since the rope incident
-They're fighting on a thin bridge over a botomless pit
-Kore hand has been harmed, and Forgath's left hand is "mechanical" (he's actually wearing a stone gauntlet but you get the point)
-Kore threw Forgath's weapon in the pit and threaten to kill all of his friends and family.

I doubt that it is completely intentional, but I'm still calling the "I am your father" moment, especially with Forgath's memento of his father being a focus of the scene.

I still find it hard to really care about these characters when one of them is literally named "Minmax".

I find it hard to connect the statements.

Minmax has started as a literal joke about how people abuse the system to gain combat advantage by gaining all sorts of non-combat flaws.

Using him as a legit character that we're supposed to care about later is, well, kinda doesn't meshes well.

It's the main problem of this comic - the beginning and the later parts are not really compatible.

And there is the joke, part 2.

Pretty much this. I mean the whole comic is basically a joke of applying roleplaying D&D rules to a setting populated by characters that act like real people AND characters that act like fanfic tyope one/two dimensional tokens. The story and its jokes really have always taken priority over making proper use of rules in a story.
