Huh.  I've been waiting patiently for the comic to come back.  To be honest, as long as Thunt is okay, and his family is okay, I don't really care that it is on hiatus.  After all, we only get weekly fixes of free entertainment from his story-telling ability.  Clearly, he owes us.  ::)

I do kind of wish Thunt was a bit more familiar with the concept of GIFT.  It might make him happier to know that pleasing the internet is not really a thing you can do.  Or should try to do.  And that sometimes, people are professionally angry.  You can't please them, and should not really care if they are pleased or not.

In a nutshell, Thunt, please come back and tell your stories.  I really like them.  If you don't think you can come back yet, then I will keep checking your website until you are ready.

Okay, does anybody know what in the airborne effervescent carnivorous death potato's name happened there? The megapost is more convoluted than MGS2's plot!

No Update -> Guilt

Therefore:

Important Part of the Story -> More Time Consuming -> Less Update -> More Guilt -> Psychotic Break

If the guy has a psychotic break over guilt from not updating something he is not even remotely obligated to update, then he needs some serious counseling and pills. That's not even remotely normal.

He had the idea that he was obligated to update. That's how guilt/obligation complexes go.

The comic's a huge part of his life, though.  And having devoted fans makes people feel obligated, even if they technically aren't.

Besides, a thousand people acting as if you're obligated to do something for a thousand days can convince you quite easily.

Anyway, the last quote before the breakdown was

The best thing the Dresden Codak guy ever did was get rid of his forum, so then there was no where for people to whine about the update schedule.

Part of the problem was him also using that clock thing on the side, but even then, he didn't really keep to a real specific schedule.

Really, he should just update when he is able to and on his own schedule. I don't know how much flak the author of OOTS gets over the update schedule and that person updates whenever they can.

Yeah, he was trying to make things incredibly perfect and I guess it took longer with the complex pages and things just snowballed from there. The countdown clock thing probably didn't help either.

None. Asking, Discussing, Or Complaining about the update schedule is strictly forbidden on the official forum, and is ranked as a "Major" rules violation.

Did he have that kind of update schedule from the start?

Uhh, yes it is.
It's basically what I feel everytime about my duties.
NO. He does not need "pills" >_> You should reconsider the idea before saying it. Pills don't solve your problems, y'know.

Point being: He's a dutiful person, one who holds worth to action--yet the idea of expectations weighs much on him, burdened moreso by the un-conscientiousness by some people (ie those who just email or spout crap about him and his work instead of positive criticism and/or wonder aloud without tact at...preferable things that should be in a personal query.)

Sorry, I am saying that as a person who has zero knowledge of psychology but lots of bad experiences from when he really should've been put on pills but his parents decided to go for "the natural route" and left him drooling constantly and being deathly afraid of eating for another four years.

I still don't know if having a webcomic places any duty on you, to be fair. Duty is doing your job or what is expected of you and can affect other people, and webcomics are, instead, a creative project, and a side project at that. A webcomic brings nothing more than fun, and is born from said fun, if it doesn't update on schedule then nobody's going to suffer.

You'd think all those people who whined about updates would realize that.

...I can relate that I've not taken any tangible aid when I was really down but...well, in my opinion? Pills are only a softener to help you cope--what makes it work is how you act against what hurts you, not anything else.
That you are already built to suppress and heal that which harms you and wounds you. Ie, cynical thoughts and voices.

Now, a webcomic is like that...probably moreso for those who have not made one. However I believe that Thunt's work...it's like an artisan building an engraving on a great wall. People know its gonna be done someday so most don't worry about it. Some few heckle him about it. The artisan takes pride or value in his work, and has a sense of duty towards it. The problem being: those wh heckle him about it make more apparent that fear (see: That Darth Vader) and then soon make it manifest.

Though the last comic is appropriate (sans the Hulk twist/joke). The more you focus/'feed' that wolf, the greater it becomes.
