Remember, though, the shield (door) is actually a fairly recent acquisition, and it clearly hasn't had time to bond to his beard yet.

You know, looking at the last comic, the penultimate panel at a first glance looks like Forgath's head is chopped off, because of the way his beard color matches the background and the bleeding arm. Foreshadowing?
