You know what? The only proof we have that he is a paladin is the axe. He hasn't smited anything, or used lay-on-hands. He must have taken an Alternate Class Feature.
He Used Lay-On-Hands to heal himself and get the rope out his throat, and earlier to heal the Leader whose name I can't recall so he could torture him.

He used lay-on-hands when he was suffocating. He hasn't declared smite though. Whether it's because he switched it out or because he never felt the need to use it is anyone's guess.

Pre-edit: Ninja'd. Though would you even be able to tell if he was smiting? It is a mental swift-action, it's not like the paladin is pointing at their opponent and shouting "I declare you as my smite target!". But then again, lay-on-hands doesn't have a verbal component, but Kore had shouted it out when he used it on himself.

I like the Evil Good idea.  Sounds like a character in my DND group.  He keeps unrepentantly doing evil things to become more powerful so he can save the world, which is perfect for an evil adventurer, except he considers himself good (the ends justify the means).  Technically the character is chaotic neutral though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I feel like his magic aura is a hint.  All those chained souls of possibly-good creatures.  Maybe he's like an Ur-Priest, and uses those souls to make even the gods think he's good.  All his talk about righteousness could be an act, or maybe he's fooled himself over time.

Maybe "Lay On Hands" is the command word for his magic Gauntlets of Cure Critical Wounds 5/day.

I don't remember the specifics but I recall the Rope Trick In The Throat incident was BS. Both because the player shouldn't have gotten away with it and Kore shouldn't have been able to survive and/or recover so easily. Although if you assume that people can get real creative with spell usage, the Rope Trick was viable but Kore's recovery still wasn't.

The DM Herbert thought it was a cool idea, so he let it happen, but he didn't want his Big Bad dying to something so puny, so he let him heal it.

Yeah that's what I got from it. At some point you just gotta relax and at the end of the day, do you still wanna play in this campaign / read this webcomic? In the case of Goblins, yeah I do.

Forgath just got a diagonal cut over his left eye. For gods sake, Thunt.

It's the wrong eye isn't it?

Also I just spotted that Thunt's tweet or something: "In every battle in Goblins, something always changes forever. Could be anything from a ripped shirt, to a scar, to the death of a character."

That's pretty deep.
