That wasn't the death the prophecy mentioned though. Whatever death it is, it's even more horrible than that one.

You could also interpret it as him being horrible at dying. No matter how hard he tries, he still can't manage to die properly.

I think in this room color matters. Pillars are colored, and ropes are cut only when that blue gem gets in contact with them. Minmax armor will be invaluable in that case.
