Oh yeah, it's not the only time this has happened.

The Yogscast Kickstarter ended with no game but the Yogscast 150 000 dollars richer.

The DF-9 kickstarter released a game, but when it was no where near completion it was suddenly declared finished, many promised parts still unimplemented.

Depends on how it's used. To name a particularly good example, That Which Sleeps basically was already a complete game, they just needed money for art.
Then they ended up raising more than 5 times their funding goal, of course, but still.

With early access, you may get complete tripe, but at least you'll get something. Kickstarter doesn't even assure that.
