Looking for some 4x/sandbox

As in topic, i know there's great Aurora but i would like something a bit faster, maybe with more graphic but also complex, could use some good medieval theme aswell, just share good 4x and sandbox games in this topic.

Umm... Anno 1602 and later games have some 4x elements to them (Finding islands with proper resources, mining/farming those resources, expanding to other islands, clearing the archipelago of other wannabe colonists) AND most of the series take place between 1400-1600 the only exeption being Anno 2070 that happens in the future (but it has pretty much the same gameplay).

I second the Anno games, they're really fun. Also, Star Ruler.

Anno 1502 or 1603 are very good. Anything newer is dumbed down a bit.
