Finite Webs and Fire
« on: October 16, 2013, 10:51:12 pm »

Any animal that can create webs can do so nonstop. This is unrealistic and broken in gameplay. Whenever I send a squad of dwarves to fight a forgotten beast with webs, they all get stuck and then the forgotten beast stomps their heads.

There should be a limited number of webs a creature can create. It should deplete when the creature spits webs, and recharge slowly.
The same bar could also be used for dragon fire. Or even poison, milk or wool.

Related suggestion:
Fire breath, webs or poison should be produced by a specialised organ. When the organ is damaged, the creature should no longer be able to use these special attacks.

You can already set an Interaction like web/fire throwing to a body part, it's just that that hasn't really been done particularly well for vanilla DF, but it wouldn't be too hard to fix.

But yeah, setting a limit/good recharge mechanic would be nice.

You can set a cool-down time, but that's just not the same.

Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Interactions with finite number of uses would be nice for something else as well. In a futuristic mod we might get a stimpack with hint:attack, 1-5 uses and complete removal of the syndrome after those uses deplete.

I applaud the use of rechargeable organs to control some interactions.

Milk and wool already recharge with time and milk can be set to different values, so it recharges faster or slower.

I think "milking" a tame GCS for web has been suggested somewhere.

Could maybe be done at the moment with use of multiple identical attacks with different recharge times, though it wouldn't work on procedurally generated creatures (which are the ones that are a real danger to webbed dwarves).

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Well, they should be overpowered, anyway.

So that should work.
