Just an important update - the countdown on the page was broken for a while, and wasn't taking into account timezones.

We fixed it - http://jupiterhell.com - Kickstarter is launching in less than 15 hours!

The booming echo is, unlike other Kickstarters where this might happen, entirely befitting the pitch video/project concept and just adds to the intensity.   8)

Everything truly does look and sound fantastic---the hard work that has went into it even at this early stage is surely apparent.

Yeah, we didn't do everything as well as we wanted to, but there's much work ahead of us :)

28% funded in less than a day. This is going rather well :)

Many thanks to everyone who has supported or helped spread the word!

Quick bump for those that might have missed it first time around.

It's DoomRL, with nicer graphics, better gameplay and easier modding support. What's not to like about it?

It's over 50% funded, so take a look.

Be sure to d/l a copy of DoomRL soon too, because Bethesda/ZeniMax....

"The Know" reporting on it:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p-POV0zaGk0

If it's a simple case of website meta tags and a few references on the website being removed/changed, as it seems to read as, then it's no biggie. It's common practice to use meta tags and references to various IPs on virtually any website. If it's a total game reskin they want, then that'll take ages.

Still, hopefully it's enough free publicity to push this over the funding line, and as a totally original creation, Jupiter Hell is Chaosforge's IP through and through.

Urgh so sorry to hear this. As you say, hope this gives you the publicity you need!!!

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

I'm not a Chaosforge employee. It seemed to be a moderately balanced video on the reporting of the situation, from a fairly popular gaming news source (I don't work there either, or for ZeniMax).

Still, I think this might be a parent company's lawyers "just doing their job", at exactly the wrong time for both companies involved (Bethesda and Chaosforge). Publicity for both, but not the sort intended or wanted.

There's a fairly strong case that nothing has to be changed, if reasonable minds persist and come to an understanding.

Still, this dorf is becoming enraged!

In any case, Memorandums of Understanding do exist upon reasonable uses of IP. That exist outside and alongside the legal system for enforcing them, reasonably.

To me, this seems a reasonable option. For both companies.

The best part is, Jupiter Hell is going to be 10x better than DoomRL in every way. Better gameplay, better mechanics, better graphics, and better replayability. So fuck konami and all that..... Better to have a better roguelike than defend one with a BFG (even one that's on every computer I've ever owned as one of the first downloads on it).

No. ZeniMax does not, in fact, own the IP, copyright, or potential placement of a game upon any particular moon in our solar system. Or any planet for that matter.

Space is IP free, you can't actually own it, even fictitiously. Until you run into the actual Empire (which has certain claims upon it). :p

Nor is the word "marine" a breach. It is simply a soldier trained in a certain branch of their military. "Space Marine" is conditionally owned by Games Workshop as an IP, assuming standard GW iconography is used, but the words Space and Marine used together, are not. They are a place and a position, capitalized due to military rank and function of a unit or soldier.

So no. Similar, but different. ZeniMax owns none of the Mars theatre of scifi either. Fighting hell or not. A location is not IP'able.

Scifi is fiction. Sometimes it's similar to other pieces. It is often derivative. This isn't about that.

((The completely and utterly different genres of game types, mechanics in them, graphical portrayal and story inclusions pretty much entirely get both Jupiter Moon and DoomRL off the hook. Especially Jupiter Moon. But there's a case to be made on "fair use" as a non-infringing product for DoomRL too.))

Same vid as before:  ((ENRAGED!))
