Dwarfen Necromancers
« on: October 14, 2013, 04:23:31 pm »

I've had a number of necromancers come to my fort and stumble into cage traps.  Scared the pants off me the first time, but when my refuse pile didn't come to life, I started to breath again.  So I'm saving a couple for future !!FUN!! and pitting the rest.

The problem is that I can't pit the dwarf necros.  They are caged just like all the others, but when I type (P) in the pit zone, they aren't on the list of options.  What gives?

Thanks.

Yeah, that's a known issue. You can let the necromancer out by building his cage with b-j and linking it to a lever.

Thanks!  I guess I should have looked harder before I asked.  I was afraid they might be considered friendly or something.  Well, off to the execution room.

Wait, you're not keeping them? Couldn't you make a area for all the goblin sieges to be brutally murdered by zombies?

Well, off to the execution room.
I do hope you mean the execution room you're going to be using for your recycleable marksdwarf targets...

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I see it now. We have a hallway with drawbridges on each end, and a retracting drawbridge on the floor. Underneath that bridge is a pit filled with zombies of the past. Necromancers have LOS by a fortification, and drawbridge to break LOS for training purposes.

Never fear, I'm keeping one for now, may use a couple later.  I just needed to clear some clutter from my cage stockpile.

How many necros do you have? I'm bloody jelly - I would kill half my fort for one and you're cleaning them out to free up some space?

I challenge you to a game of 'Hide the Sausage', to the death.

I had 5, 3 humans and 2 dwarfs.  I was slow in setting up defenses or military and had a courtyard walled off with multiple doorways, about half of which were trapped.  Just kept get announcements as the blighters would get trapped.  Kept the surface clear of corpses (except a giant raven that fell in a pond) so no worries there.  It was like an infestation of mice.

By the way, the same thing happens with caged dwarf zombies.  Another thing that annoys me is that all those "dwarf corpse corpse"s fill up your tombs rather quickly after a few necro sieges.

"The dead walk!"  Time to order up another 90 coffins...

I will run the experiment to completion anyway, however. Even if the only reason why there is a punctured equilibrium in the fortress is because I have been brutally butchering babies
EDIT: I just remembered that dwarves can't equip halberds. That might explain why the squads that use them always die.
