v2.13 is now available to download!
Press 'P' on the map view to open a Politics window.
Choose a player, and then click to give them a color for ally or enemy!

This should definitely help keep it clear who you should be shooting and who you should be helping :)

Aw sweet!

Please please please make a slideshow for it :D

I'm really interested in this, but it seems like it has a pretty high learning and setup curve, but I'd love to see LP-type things :) Perhaps even do LPs like Erkki used to do. Each team gets its own threads, and the other team isn't allowed in :D

Bonus points for BSG-like flavour text!

It appears everyone has decided that I'm the center of all fire...

I recall you piloting in Guns of Icarus - flying into the thick of it is your hallmark strategy! One could almost say that to do it would be "pulling a Girlinhat" 8)

Yes, and my second flight shall be more glorious.  I've already learned quite a bit about combat with just a few shots.  "Running into the thick of it" will be incredibly accurate.

Sooo in theory...

I could field am army of expendable and easy to make fighters?

Also, if I joined a round and utterly sucked would that be bad in anyway?

Disposable fighters are actually difficult to make.  They tend to get big sooner than you think.  And fighters can't use generators, only batteries - size is an issue.

I keep messing around in the editor but all my ships end up being too big, slow and expensive.

Because I haven't actually got into a game yet could someone tell me how fast and cheap ships need to be in order to be practical?
Also has anyone pulled off a ship without reactors that is charged by another vessel?

You're hitting the crux of the problem.  Designing is about going small creatively.  Something like 1-2 acceleration and 1 turn rate are decent, but having lateral movement can also be super helpful.

I think one of the most powerful designs would be a platform, engines on all sides and a large gun on one side.  Able to strafe and turn better than a 'fixed wing' design...

Drone time

Idea is the front little spire can be grabbed by a docking clamp. That charges up the capacitors and them the drone flies away. Haven't made a carrier yet.

-snip-

I just want to point something out: That drone has a CCW/CW of 0. Ergo it won't be able to turn at all. You might want to fix that.

It's also facing backwards.  Rebuild it rotated, up is forward.  It'll still fly just fine, it'll just display itself as aiming in the opposite direction.

Before I rotate it how do I get better CW? I thought the thrusters nearer the nose would be able to do it.

Thrusters further from the center of mass, and gyros closer to the center of mass, will provide rotation.  Engines have to be zero-sum pairs - that is to say, when the left forward and right backwards engines are both active, they generate no motion but do generate rotation.  So it's not just engines, it's paired engines that are balanced.

It's... kinda complicated.
