I'll play once we get a game going.

As a note, the hosts on the PBW site don't have the stockv2 or seism mods, so don't get to rely on either, unless we end up setting up an autohost of our own. (they do have stockv1 and stockv0)

So, if we're going to play what sort of mods and rules are we going with?  In particular, what set of parts, any rules on cost or structure, and what sort of teams?  I'm up for a 2v2 in particular.

I got just the two .rars and it says freeglut.dll is missing from my computer; before I go chasing it through suspicious, malware ridden means is it in one of those sequential 2.whatever .rars also listed on that page?

While it's probably obvious, this is free to download?

Aye, you need to download freeglut from that site before it works. Also, stockv0/v1 on the site is simply something for setting up games. A code of sorts. I think you can set it up to use v2 instead.

ninja edit: And yes, it is free to play!

freeglut.dll is a legitimate file; the game does need it to work.

For settings, I would prefer stock/stockv2 if we can get it working (because all my ships are in it), but the others would be fine too (seism actually looks sort of bad, I havent played it though.)  Teams would be good; I like the idea of a carrier start, but going with fleets would be fine as well.

This is more of a long-term PBEM-style game, but feel free to play anyway  ;).

Apparently F3 makes the designer instantly quit...  :o

(I did download the ship designer's manual, but that was a waste of time since it's not any kind of readable document, but apparently xml and stuff, so it needs a manual for the manual)

My version of the ship designer manual works... that format should work with Word, is that what you used?

I think friom the console log I get from using f3:
Code: [Select]
Saving GAM...

Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at lib/IO_parse.pm line 66.

That it will try to save your orders as if you were playing a game, but since you aren't in a game and have no orders it crashes (presumably mine still works because I am running it from the source).

Does anyone know how shields work?  Specifically, does AP reduce that much from any hit, or nullify ones below that value and ignore stronger ones?  Also, what is SP?

As far as I think, AP is the current value of the shield, as it takes damage this drops at 1:1 and SP is the max value - as it takes AP damage its SP will drop, and it won't recover more AP than its current SP, and SP will regenerate slowly.

So your shield takes a hit, drops power, and then recovers strength to -almost- maximum.  This continues until the shield is actually broken.

Word? No, I don't use (or own) Word. (What happened to using html, or RTF, which virtually everyone can read with no trouble?)

That's actually a ODT file, which is supposed to be usable with other things... I guess that doesn't mean text editors. Here are the manuals, though without pictures:

ODT is Open Document Text, or something.  It's OpenOffice, which is the free version of Word.  Opens a LOT of stuff just fine, and is free.

You can use and download freeword-- or open word. Open office? something like that, it will let you open the manual.

F3 in the shipdesigner saves your design for work later, I think. And F4 just closes it. I am not sure about that.

Otherwise, F1 gives you controls instructions.

I still haven't figured out how to start a game using autohost. It is my belief at this point that on the client side we lack some sort of application that turns .plr into .gam. I tried running it, and I get similar errors to what Draxis posted.

Apparently, the only other way (that I can find) is to set SJ as the autohost. But I've been waiting for it to join for like... 2 hours now.

In the game, f4 saves your orders in a plr file to send to the host, and f3 adds your orders to your gam file (the one you download from the host) so you can come back to them later.  I'm pretty sure what happens is that in shipdesigner mode, they do the same thing, but since there are no orders or a .gam file, they just crash with an uninitialized variable error.
