Well, that was awkward...  Apparently it wanted to dock my solar array FIRST and then dock the ship.  So my ship exploded into fragments and now I've got to put it back together...  Requesting a few turns cease fire to pick my shit up off the floor.  Your compliance with the temporary cease fire will earn you one (1) favor of the foxes.

Yea no probs.

Something bogus happened there. You had the ship docked and then added the solar array on top, the ship shouldnt have been knocked apart, any overlap should have knocked off the array.

It looks like a problem with the changes SJ made to the Hull 3's and docking not working correctly in this case imo. Why did the engines/H-Lasers fall off the struts yet the weapons remained attached to the Hull 3's for example? There was no overlap to knock off those parts since the array doesnt reach over those parts.

Crowe: The ship wasn't docked last turn.
I expected it was undocking to attack, but it never left the base.

The sequencing of most order types, including docking is randomized so that (for example) nobody gets an unfair advantage at grabbing scrap first.  That said, two clamps are better than one since you get two chances to be first :)
I don't think anybody is in position to attack before you've got it fixed.

I was sure it was docked in position the turn the array was built, but yes your right it was undocked, just had a check.

My memory is terrible. :)

The random order of operations is a bit iffy on this...  Makes certain attempts very quirky.

If you take an extra turn to secure the ship before welding things on then you can be sure it happens in the right order.
The one-turn rush makes it a coinflip.

Girlinhat, why not just mount a tiny reactor instead of all those solar panels?  It would be far more cost-efficient, and less likely to get shot off.

The upgraded (25e) solar panels are about the same price and tonnage as reactors, although they are extremely huge size wise.

Seems to me that a reactor would have been easier to defend, but I suppose the panels are easier to replace piecemeal

I've updated the gui again.
Source is now up to date, and the new feature is that the CnC budget breaks down repairs by component category.

So SJ has been hard at work implementing hinges, here's a couple of teasers for you:

Arwing in the... er 'go forward' configuration:

Arwing in the 'reverse thrust' configuration:

Not yet public released, & currently it's just the designer that can do it. shouldn't be too long before the game engine proper can do it. dibs in on the first test game!

All we need now is the ability to "do a barrel roll!", flipping the entire ship about the Y-axis... :P

Update!

I have added hinges to the equipment list.
They can rotate parts in the ship designer, but are not yet functional in the actual game.

Also, in preparation for hinges to work during a game, I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole.
Pressing V on the map screen or on the ship view will toggle the view into a historical view:
Weapon traces appear on the map and ships appear in their previous positions and headings.
CnC and Energy budgets while in historical view show what happened during the turn processing as well.

Normal View:

Historical/Damage View:

Be sure to toggle back to normal view with V again to give your orders for the current turn.

These new features will be fully functional once the next turn of a game is processed.

PS:
Speaking of which, GirlinHat, you're last to upload your PLR!
Time to get the game rolling for the new year.

Hinges are now a thing in game!

Each hinge action (60deg) costs 1 CnC point, and happens just after navigation/acceleration and disables, but before weapons fire.

Note that if you hinge a weapon and it ends up pointing in a different direction, any old targets will likely be invalid, and you should re-aim the weapons.  If you leave the shots ordered, those illegal shots will not be fired and you won't be charged for the CnC use.

Note that if the things you are hinging are a combination of too heavy and hinging too far, then the rest of the ship will move too.

That update definately looks cool; also, that demonstration picture made me realize the inherent logic in space fighters turning into mecha for more manuverability.  It's just that the animators must have thought it would be cooler to have guns on the arms than engines.

Ekolis, did Girlinhat ever respond to your PM?  She does seem to be still active on the forum.
