Is anyone actually reading my AAR? I'm thinking of discontinuing it, because as far as I know, no one is... speak now or forever hold your peace!
I wasn't sure where this was...

You should be aware, that there is no "sneaking up" on the fennec.  Total turn rate means you really aren't getting at my backside.

Who will be in the base game, and is this an acceptable starting base?  I think that between missiles and any upcoming weapons changes, base toughness shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I will, once I get a picture of the starting base in it's entirety. I kinda want to know exactly what I'm working with before I starting making plans.

Those spacedocks up by the fabber look a bit cramped by the fabber and the rest of the hull. You probably won't be able to dock much there except fighters... :( That said, you did leave room for expansion with those docking ports!

What's the point of all those hull2 struts, anyway? There's nothing actually *connected* to them... are we supposed to weld stuff onto there or something?

I put the hull2s on to give the reactors/capacitors some protection from any early missile attacks, as it seems like the only reliable countermeasures against a protected missile are to move out of the way, or your own missiles - neither of which may be an option early on.

Good point on the spacedocks; I'm removing those hull2s and replacing them with a much closer cover of hull1s to give the docks more room.

How about this design?

Full deflector shielding for some basic defence.
Token turn and thrust so that launched ships will start with charged propulsion
Lots of docking area, and a good number of bridges for repair duty.

That looks pretty solid :) Any reason you went with the small spacedocks instead of large ones? Was that intentional, or did you just not consider using the larger ones?

They are large spacedocks, but disabled to save power, so the bounding grid shrunk.

Might I suggest a change?  Emmissive armor coating appears to be indestructible - if the armor it's attached to is destroyed, it will always detach and become debris.  Armor coatings should probably be destroyed when they become single pieces of debris.  If they're still attached to an armor segment as debris, that's fine, but singular hexes of armor coating should probably just be crumpled.  Some sort of "shatters_when_detached" flag might help for armor coatings and other particular parts...

The coatings have low-priority "core" ability (IE: can form a ship) because that allows you to build them individually and weld them on.  Anything not attached to a component with core ability (having core itself is good enough) will vaporize at the end of the turn.

if the coatings are on a mobile ship, they will die when they exit the universe, although for a stationary base they will stick around after being blown off and can form a cloud of laser-attenuating dust.

The indestructibility is offset by their high cost compared to armor and even shields.

This alone makes me change my mind.  That sounds great.

So, the next game will have:
  • Draxis
  • Ekolis
  • USEC
And probably SJ?

I am in support of SJ's base design.

Sure, I'll join.

Should this be teams or FFA?
