Hmm.
I can see the gunview working fairly straightforwardly to fire all identical guns at once.  It would just have multiple target lists being shown, and they'd all get added to when you click.

I'm not sure how it could work well when dealing with weapons having different ranges and shot counts.

I just wanted a broadside option.  Click a target, and all weapons that can reach that far will fire as many shots as they can.

I could have a popup menu for "fire one shot" "fire all shots" and "Fire all identical guns" and "fire all guns".

I've personally never encountered or expect to encounter a situation where I'll only want to fire a few guns.  If I DO need to split fire, it'll be mainly at a ship, and partially at an incoming missile, in which case I'll fire all the guns at the ship, and then manually re-aim some of the guns at the missile.

I'm working on the multifire thing now.

Can anybody think of a good popup label sized text string to distinguish the three options?
("Fire all shots from this gun here", "Fire all shots from all identical guns here", and "Fire all shots from all guns here")

Fire all from this weapon
Fire all from this type
Fire all from this arc

It needs to be compact enough to fit in the popup menu options too.
Maybe:
Code: [Select]
                   This Type
This Weapon \        |         / This Arc
                   Fire All

That looks like it should work.  You can always provide more detailed explanations in the manual.

How many people are going to be in the next game? I for one will be.

I'd like to play too, though we can also run multiple games...

I'd like to start another game with fabber bases.

The first few turns will be boring but quick, and then it gets interesting as you get to start building up a unique fleet of ships starting small and growing larger over time.

Each player would start with an identical stationary base skeleton to upgrade as they like.
Missiles and point defence drones would be constructed first, then skirmishing fighters, and then gunships and then warships and then the bases get imploded by the victor :)

The big thing that is missing in the $60k ship faceoffs is that there is no back&forth in ship design iterations, no build up from humble beginnings, and no need to design for maintainability or endurance.

We mostly did the 60K's to figure out controls and design specifications, like actual movement and aim, and then details like how shields and armor work, weapon penetration etc.  Now that we know what things do, things are different...

I am on board with the bases game.   What should be on the skeleton? I'm thinking a medium fabricator, a medium reactor, a spacedock or 2, and some Docking Port 3s, which should be enough to jump anything in the game; but maybe we should do a large fab instead?  Not really sure how that would work out, the early game would be quicker but not sure if that is desirable.

Edit: Here is one I just threw together, how would it work?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That top that was cut off has just a medium fab.

We might need some heavier weapons to be added to the game first, if we want a bases game. Fabthree drags on forever, because we can barely *damage* each other's bases...

Some ideas:

Gamma Laser - Massive laser that can only be mounted on class-3 hull. Fires only one shot per turn, but it does 50 damage.

Stellar Converter - Massive disruptor that can only be mounted on class-3 hull. Fires only once every 3 turns, but fires a bolt 5 hexes wide that does a total of 100 damage.

Phaser - Advanced laser that requires class-2 hull, like the heavy and turbo lasers. Same damage and fire rate as a medium laser, but skips shields.

Spazer - A modified version of the turbo laser. Instead of firing 2-4 shots that do 7 damage each, it fires 8-12 shots that do 2 damage each. (This will require use of the "fire all shots from this weapon" feature! :D)

Photon Torpedo - Capital ship weapon that requires class-3 hull. Fires a single bolt that does 75 damage. Can fire 3 turns in succession in burst mode, but takes 4 turns to reload each torpedo.

Antimatter Warhead - Advanced warhead that has twice the blast radius and 4 times the damage output of a standard warhead, but is much more expensive.
