This has been a quick couple of turns... looks like there is about to be action.

Wait for me to get a good launch vector on you.  One more turn.

Haha, I had some trouble setting the engine back on the hull and lost 2 turns or so. No idea why it wouldn't want to fit there and dislodge the armor. But it's all good now.

I feel the need to ask: Are you the one on the bottom right, Girlinhat? Or is that Shooer (whoever that is). I'm rather confused about who is where right now.

Shooer is bottom, Girlinhat is bottom right.

Shooer is bottom, Girlinhat is bottom right.

Danke. Also, it looks like we've had the first shots fired in the game. And weapons are... much less deadly than I'd thought they'd be. Eh.

That and everything being faster than I expected do make the game somewhat different than I had expected.  I think most of my designs are overengined and undergunned.

Screenshots etc had me thinking it was a lugubrious trek to insta'soddering hulls in half in a single, gloriously well-placed barrage.

On inspection, all of the combat screenshots I used in the OP are of big beams hitting small ships; that is probably the reason for the confusion.

I've been messing around with the ship designer; this looks quite interesting.

Combat is quite deadly, IMO.

I did do a fight with 4 30k ships, versus 1 120k ship, and let me tell you; Once you lose your guys? You are down. And I saw some catastrophic damage by a few small beams.

Now, I say catastrophic, but I didn't really die. What happened though was a small beam going through my disruptor, all the way through the hull and hitting my engine on the back. That, my friends, is badass. Another shot like that, and my ship would've fallen apart into two pieces.

Don't be confused about one round of combat. All it takes is one well placed shot, and everything goes to hell.

Dunno about you guys, but I'm striking hard and fast.  Upper Right has already taken heavy damage to a failed torpedo and a fighter, and is about to take even heavier damage.  In just one round of combat I've learned quite a bit about how to handle things as well...
