Is there any way of finding out if anyone has been stacking the vote in favor of one race of another? I doubt that anyone is; the humans are only 2 votes ahead, after all, and there's more than a month of voting left. And hell, look at those percentages. The gap between first and last place is only 4 percent. With ratios like that, no matter who happens, the majority will not have been first place.

Personally, I would love for the humans to win, and would play the HELL out of a human mod. Consider that neutrality means that they could take aspects of all the other races, and that DFhack's creature spawning could mean that you could actually recruit members of other species...or so I'm given to understand, I'm no programmer after all. There's cool stuff to be done with them, is all that I'm saying. I donated my piece in hopes that humans would win, in fact.

Mind you, I think each of them are great. Elves would guarantee a different playing style, with Warlocks being an even greater departure from the norm. Gnomes seem a mite similar to dwarves, but would flesh out a preexisting modded race. Goblins...actually, I'm drawing a blank on these guys, but just because I'm drawing a blank doesn't mean Meph will. Whichever race gets picked, I'm happy. The point is, whoever wins, it's the quality of the mod that matters. If it's done well, they will do well, and I have confidence in Meph to do his job well.

I voted for humans :(    Elves are... elves. Goblins seem too similar to Torcs for me. Warlocks.. I have enough fun trying to manage my 2 magic using dwarves and they make more sense to me as an uncontrollable evil. Gnomes were my second vote but out of the two, I pick humans since gnomes seem too similar to dwarves.

Humans... really? Of all the magical, technical, evil and good races, the equivalent of neutral switzerland is winning?
Sound like you don't really want to do the human meph.
I think you should do what you really want to do, it would be more productive and creative that way. :)
Seeing the tiny gap between the vote, the winner race will not represent the majority of the community anyway.

A sentiment to which we can all agree. Even if my beloved humans win, I would drop them in a second if Meph doesn't want to do them.

Its just surprising.

In my opinion:
Humans & Gnomes are too close to dwarves. Merchants and Machinery are parts I already modded into the dwarves. It would be expanding on already existing features.
Goblins: Deathsword just started modding on them on his own. For the third time... I dont know if he goes through with it this time, but it would be really strange if they win, I start modding on them, and he is modding in them. I'd rather avoid that.
Elves & Warlocks: Both plant and magic based civs would be new, and would play a lot different from the current setup with dwarves, orcs and kobolds. Its stone/mining, vs military/raiding vs thieving/animal-farming. I'd personally voted for elves & warlocks. :)

btw, two more donations came in over night. :)

PS: Gnomes scream for power-needing-workshops, which are not possible so far. Its a feature I'd love for them.

Sorry for the double post, but if anyone has some knowledge about bitcoins, please leave me a PM. I got 0.1 BTC as a donation, and have no idea what to do with it. ;)

That's 109$ right now if you can exchange it, but that's extremely hard if not impossible to do right now.

Bitcoin is not a ponzi scheme (and don’t we all wish we’d taken a flyer back in 2009 for a few bucks?  Then again, there’s that poor schmuck in this week's news that mistakenly threw away a hard drive with millions on it).  It’s not only for the Silk Road but it is speculative and certainly draws LEO attention.  International money transfers are easy for large sums (a bank fee has a USD40 minimum which is also pretty much the maximum, LCs, etc.) but small amounts are problematic.  All middlemen take a chunk and even Western Union fees are less than PayPal’s.  Credit cards average 3-4%.  Checking account writs are also a hassle for currency exchange (which is where another chunk goes to the middleman).  International Postal Money Orders work but require a mailing address.  Poll: my vote goes to Elves + “one of whatever Meph wants, I’m covered anyway.”

Has no one actually said what Bitcoin is?

Well, Bitcoin is the first large-scale attempt to create an online currency. If it works out in the long term, you'll be able to buy anything on the web with Bitcoin, from anywhere in the world. But it has a whole lot of problems to it:
1) Bitcoin is very popular for the black market, because it is anonymous.
2) In order to turn it into cash, you need to find a seller who accepts Bitcoin, and they are few and far between.
3) This is the big problem...without government regulation and guarantees , Bitcoin is astonishingly unstable. It's value is determined entirely by market conditions. At the moment, there is a huge number of people buying up Bitcoins, which has skyrocketed it's value (hence your .1BC being worth so much) but it could crash at any time and without warning.

If you're a gambling man, hold on to it and watch it grow. If you want to play it safe, work on selling it as soon as possible for boring ol' reliable cash.

Anyone could use a mathematically similar algorithm, and call it "bytecoin" or something else.

The problem bitcoin have is same as the gold in World of Warcraft. IF nobody plays World of Warcraft, it is useless.

The main problem is that it's a deflationary currency; such a thing often causes hoarding of money.

Just look at it like it's a stock, and the most chaotic and unstable listing in the entire existence of economics.
